The Polyp Tank

Amazing tank. I hope to reset up my tank towards the later part of this year. The acrylic rods is absolutely brilliant! Plan to do the same. Updates would definitely be cool. :-)

Thanks for the kind words and interest everyone. It is appreciated.

Not much to update....except since the last pics I have posted I have pretty much gutted the polyp tank and completely reaquascaped it. lol

I was so pleased at how my 240 sps tank came out with a couple of new ideas, that I wanted/needed to redo this one. I havent taken any pics of my tanks since the last ones posted here. I will get to taking some pics sometime soon of both systems. :)

Wow.... So whats your plan for all those when they start to spread in your tank your gonna run out of room quick...

Of all the systems I have had I have yet to truly fill one until there was no room. I typically either accidentally kill everything, weed out the stuff I dont really love, or upgrade before that becomes a problem. :)

ok...Here is a pic for you completely non-zoa related. This is of a candy cane I have had shoved in my sump for months with hardly any light, and even less flow. I had to just pull the camera out and take a pic.

The result of complete neglect every now and then can work out. :) I do wonder how long the dusters will last once in a real tank again.

TTT with a good thread we should be keeping near the top cause its cool and we like it and those dusters are gonna be toast

EDIT: fly can you empty your pm box?

box emptied

thanks for the kind words. I actuall y sold that candy as I didnt have room for it and a few others which is why they were in the sump in the first place. Didnt charge anything extra for the dusters of course as I dont think they will last either.

"Sorry about the loss of your porites too.

well......about that porites. Here is a pic of it I just took today. Moral to the story dont ever give up on a coral until it is truly and for sure dead. ;) They might be fragile sometimes, but other times they can survive being left in a bag on the ground outside overnight in 30 something degree weather. She isnt big, but she lives.

And a couple more pics. I thought my relationship with this condy and clowns was over as she moved due to so me hydroids bothering her, and I had to banish her to the sump of my big tank for nearly a month and in the process seperate her from her clowns. Finally got her attached to the rock I wanted and put her back. Lo and behold, last week for the first time ever momma clown did this for me. I think whe was happy to get her nem back after being seperated for a month :)

Bill, will I see a tank video from you in the near future? That would be sweet to see your tank in living color and movement.

video??? ya right. You have no idea the pain it takes me just to post pics. My editing process has changed drastically, I shrink them to as small as possible and it still takes forever, sometimes having to try multiple times to upload to photobucket due to tiny connectivity breaks that make the uploads fail. Even just browing I generally click and walk away or click and go back to another link I clicked a minute ago as if i sit there and wait I will just needlessy beat on the keyboard and mouse. lol

I live in BFE. a booster antennae allowing me to use a 3g running at 50% (on the good days) is as good as I can do. I suppose Im lucky to even be online. :)

If you want to see my tanks in living color and motion it will have to be in person ;)

Thanks for the nice words :)

get in line buddy

;).

I only wish I could grow them fast enough to hook everybody up.

I actually have a problem with the tank at the moment. I screwed up in my last little aquascaping tweak and anemone ordeal and left the rock off of the starboard for a few minutes on the right side fo the tank.......it floated up on me and got something stuck underneath it about midway to at the end the starboard is lifted nearly an inch, and there is therefore nearly an inch thick of detritous on that entire side fo the tank exposed to the water column. I have this really wierd green paste/film algae I have never seen before covering the starboard on the right 1/4 of the tank and it is spreading fast all of a sudden. I can easily suck it out, but it instantly grows back.

You all who use sand have the same crap on the floors of your tank but your sandbd shelters you from it.......and then just doses you with it a little at a time which is no big deal. Mine will start kicking my butt if I dont do something about it as an inch thick is too much and the problem will jhust get worse by the day. Next time I go to Portland i will be picking up a new piece and replacing the floor as the one that is there is no longer flat and could never be simply put back as it was.

this was my response earlier in this thread to someone asking me what I do when I run out of space........

In thinking about the breakdown its going to take to replace the starboard...............I think Ive decided to get rid of this tank altogether. Once again upgrading before it gets a chance to truly mature.

Having the other big tank the 18" depth of this thing is very limiting and frustrating as far as aquascaping as the back wall simpl;y comes too soon. Im thinking about replacing it with a 48x48x20" true eurobraced with a external C2C. I am going to build the tank myself out of 3/4"......maybe 1" acrylic. I foresee changing nothing as far as general tank design and flow schematics, but having much more fun and getting truly funky with the aquascaping and additional 30" of depth.

:ighting is certainly up for debate. I will probably go with a couple of full size lumenarcs and a strip or two of t5's in front and back. I think I would actually like to play with true color control, as the last few systems I have run are pretty much dictated by the choices in 250 w halides. I wills till be running 250 w ahildes for sure though in some manner.......anyone with experience in lighting a tank that wide, would love your input

sound like fun?? :D My wife thinks Im psychotic

Coming soon. The Polyp Tank 2
