The power of dry skimming.....

I mean yuk, the smell of dry skimming.....

I was getting a little lazy and tired of emptying my skimmer so much so I turned down the flow of my G3 recirc skimmer and decided to try some dry foam.

Holy Cow does that smell bad. My wife had to leave to go shopping. Think that was just an excuse to spend more money?

Any way, great slimy green filth batman....

I can take some pics but I don't think I'd feel comfortable drilling holes in someone else's skimmer.

It's pretty easy though. Here's the link to the website with directions.

I didn't add a second pump to mine, I'm using the stock sedra 5000 but might upgrade that to a 9000.

Hope this helps.

Adam i was also going to do the recirc mod and the gate valve mod. i was wondering did you have to use the second gate valve mod or did you get the first one to work? i also have a G2 but i have a 3500. do you think i should go with a 5000? thanks a lot

Hubby asks, what prevents the back pressure from going back up into the tank?

Are you planning on feeding directly from you overflow? I don't think I'd do that unless you had dual overflows and used the second to bypass the skimmer all together. The overflow feeding the skimmer you need a ball/gate valve on to control the flow, so you didn't get large bubbles going into your skimmer. The excess water would then go down your other overflow.

It can be done with a single drain, just put a tee in the line before the valve you use to control the flow into the skimmer, and any water that backs up will go down the other side of the tee presumably to the sump. Probably you'd have to point the tee up or at least slightly up so that the water would go to the skimmer first rather than flow down the other part of the tee to your sump by default. Please note I haven't actually tried it yet, but it sounds good in theory! :)

After thinking this over last night, I think I'll use the feed pump also. Hubby thought I'm nuts drilling into a perfectly good skimmer... until I showed him the page that was written by the manufacturer themselves!

You can order them on line, I think US plastics has them or you can get them from the ASM website.

You might even be able to get them at McMaster Carr in Elmhurst.
