The Reef Central Corner Club Thread

Thanks for the photography input Misled I will try your recommendation next time I borrow a DSLR. The 92 is 34" deep, front to back.

Thanks for the compliments, I really appreciate it. It is a lot of effort to get a tank the way you want. You have to spend money and dedicate a lot of time just to get things right. It is awesome to be able to share the tank with you guys here, as you can really appreciate what a corner tank means. There is not a light or flow solution readily available and we have to improvise things. Just the round front makes DIY canopies a tough job. And no one makes a decent canopy for our tanks.

yeah good point about no real solutions to flow and lighting, lets face it, we corner tank reefers are unique, huh, anyone can run a normal rectangle tank, nothing too it :D :D

Ok, here's a full tank of mine. Most of the frags are on the sand for now, but here it is.
For the camera guys:
Aperature Priority
f/10
1/8 sec shutter speed
ISO 400
It was takin on a tripod with a remote shutter about 10 feet from the tank with a Tamron 28-90mm lens at 60mm. No other adjustments were made in photoshop except cropping.

Thats a pretty nice clear pic Jesse. But, I can tell it was taken in the day, cause you can see the vertical lines of the shades in the reflection of the tank, and something else right above where the Tang is in relation to the front glass. Maybe if you took one at night with all the lights off. I noticed that was a real problem about taking pics of the curved tanks. It catches reflections from everywhere!!!! But none the less, that is a very nice pic, and your tank is looking like it's ready to get loaded with frags:) Not too much fish blur in the pic either, and those Tangs can swim pretty fast!

There in lies part of the problem, at least in my living room. Taking pics at night won't work because there's not enough light. I can add some shutter length, but the fish will blur. Use a flash, unless it's remote, which I don't have, would bounce of the glass. If I were going to try for something nice, I'd have to turn my lights on in the morning since the afternoon sun is hitting my windows by the time my lights come on.

By the by, there's a few, (about ten), frags in the sand. Probably about two more weeks before I move them.

Well I know what you mean Jesse. There is nothing more frustrating than having an amazing looking tank, and not being able to show others just how nice it is.

BTW, I feel that I must have a little bragging rights for the night. This evening, I was lucky enough to make my presence at the Annual Art Of Ferrari meet in Corning, NY. Nothing, (besides #1: women, and #2: reefing), gets me as excited as cars, and what better than a 500+hp Italian, beautiful, road burning sculpture? So anyways, I have the strong urge to share these pics, and I'm really hoping that the RC mods don't delete them!:)

1987 Ferrari 328 GTS with tuned suspension, lightweight magnesium wheels, 8 piston brake calipers and carbon/ceramic mesh rotors, single turbo mod, carbon diffuser....the list goes on and on.....and on and on......and on and on and on:)

I've got to say, that seeing these cars that I can only dream about really makes me wish that I would've tried to get good grades in high school, and end up with a good college degree. Oh the dreams must continue..........................

Nice looking tank:) do you have the MJmods on a wavemaker mine always started backwards when I used them.. also how is your lighting set up

No, no wavemaker. If you look at the top, there's a seaswirl on the overflow that changes the flow.

Right now there's just a Reefmax 250w 14k SE in a luminbright mini reflector. The VHO actinics will be added next.

I guess I know what Jesse's saving the money up for now!:) Only a mere 280grand. Small potatoes huh? HAHAHA!!!!! Oh boy if I only had the money, I'd have so many sweet cars in my nonexistant garage!

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention, that I also only live about 20min away from Watkins Glen International Raceway. This is where the Ferrari club will be testing and track tuning their cars all day long on Sunday. And I'll be able to soak in all the sweet glory of the V8 and V12 harmonies! Man I love living close to a racetrack!!!!

That car is nice, but I could never afford the insurance. I'll stick with my station wagon.

97 Volvo 850 GLT turbo. Couldn't keep up with that, but it's a pretty quick little grocery gitter!!!!

Thats right I was gonna ask you how high you mounted your reflector

The bulb is 18 inches off the water. This is what Coralife and Aquarium Specialties, (where I bought it), recomends.

nomorenames - that is so not fair!!!! I was down in Miami visiting my brother in college in 2001 and I got to watch 2 of them race from a stoplight. What a sweet sound! I've been hooked ever since!

Misled - Yes those Volvo wagons are actually pretty sweet! My dad always had a 940 or 960. He was going to do the turbo upgrade on the 960, but never got around to it. I've been looking into a 2002 Audi S4. About 11,000 for the car, and only 1300 for KO4A RS4 turbo upgrade. Between that and the $1700 ECU, I can have an all wheel drive car that's over 600hp! All that for around 14k! I'd be so happy!

That seems a bit far away....

I thought the same thing. I'm glad I didn't test it though. I've burnt up a few sps allready.

I have mine at 9" from the water surface. These are my PAR readings:

1" below water surface 750
10" below water surface 500
20+" at bottom 250

And that is with a 400W 20k MH.
