The Reef Central Corner Club Thread

I apologize if this question has been asked before. Did anyone who has a corner tank try one of the Vortech Propeller pumps w a controller? If yes, would you please share with us which model (MP20, MP40, Gen 2...) that you have and the location of the pump in your corner tank and your like and dislike of the pump/controller? Also will you recommend others to buy one?

Thanks!

Ruffridin & Hookup posted answers, pics & a video to your question on Pg 4, check it out. I believe the consensus is go w the MP40W, its quieter since you dont have to use it 100%. I would read page 4 & then if you have any questions still ask hookup & ruffridin. Im going to get mine soon, so I'll post my thoughs then!!

I am so embarrassed to ask the questions on Vortech when the posts were all there just a few days ago:o I guess I was just too lazy to look back at the thread thinking I have to go back 44 pages to find them. The search feature does not work for me most of the time.

I understand Hookup and others are using two MP40 and got great results in getting waves but the pumps were dialed down. What about the use of two MP20 pumps? Does the controller for the MP20 same as MP40 and offer the same features?

Dont sweat it, it happens to all of us! I have heard that the MP20W at 100% is pretty loud. As far as the features you got me there! Me personally I just think its better to be able to reduce the flow in a MP40W than it is to not be happy w the noise &/or flow of the MP20W... Maybe some one else can chime in here...

I noticed there is a upgrade kit to change MP20 to MP40. Is that for the pump itself or for the controller? Just wonder.

Simon, the controller is the only part upgraded... pretty cool eh?

Hookup, I really like your Vortech MP40 pumps setup. I didn't know if it would work in a corner tank until I see the video. It's cool!

If you said the upgrade is only for the controller, are you saying the pumps are the same for MP20 and MP40? Why is that the MP20 is only rated for 70g or smaller tank? So the upgraded controller can make the same pump more powerful?

good news!!! my clowns finally found the new anemone! Its only been 3 months haha

That's great! I have a pair of Percula clown since I started the tank 2 yrs ago. They also swim only in the upper right corner of my tank and rarely venture out into the middle of the tank. I did have an anemone but the clowns never took it as host. The anemone got so big (>10 inches) I had to get rid of it.:(

HAHA!!!! I know your pain! I had a Black Saddleback Clown in my old tank and tried a bubble tip which he never had a taste for, and he ended up making a home in my Anthellia! That coral came as a hitch hiker on a piece of branch rock for free, and he chose that over a $75 BTA! I lost that clown to my Angler, but i'm looking to find a larger Tomato or Skunk clown. I'm hoping that my next clown will host one of my corals.

So I added a few more fish. Now along with the tang, there's a sixline wrasse, 4 pajama cardinals and a rainfords goby. I love this little guy.

Yep, the pumps are the pumps... the controller somehow drives it faster... I 100% expect that someone could mod an MP20 to drive it faster... but I've heard of nothing.

ya about 6 months ago i had to tear the tank apart because my long tentacle anemones had split so many times (i think when all was said and done I had 41 total). It was bad... so these clowns went from having control of the tank (or a mansion) to being homeless.. lol but they are loving the new guy

Some older pics, don't have any current ones but this is the stand I built to give more space for my 54g corner.

Whispre - Nice DIY! I like that idea of adding the extra room on one side. I'm sure you can use every inch you can get with a sump on a corner tank!

Jesse - I love your rock layout! Very simple, but gives you great potential for frag placement! I can't wait for those frags to grow out (and i'm sure your as excited as me), all those ledges and shadowed spots will be awesome for a mixed reef!

Whispre - What HOB fuge did you go with? I have the 2.5gal CPR hob fuge with a Prizm skimmer, which i'm modding until i can afford a larger skimmer. I've really been looking into the Reef Octo 800s HOB. I've heard great things about this skimmer, but for almost $250 ive been wondering what my other options for HOB skimmer would be. Anyone with info please fill me in!

On a side note, i've just been called back into work after a 3 month layoff, and i'm not sure how long this job is, but just to let everyone know, my posts will probably reduce drasticly! I'm going to be working 10hrs mon-thurs so i'm hoping my extended weekends will allow me enough time to check in and post when i need to. I have apprenticeship classes tues and thurs, so those days are out the window. I completely enjoyed my time home with the wife and kids (and RC!), but i guess it's time for me to go back into the workmen's life.
