The series predictions and thoughts

Dodger played well last night. They were able to close a few innings with men on base. this was what they needed to win. I still think they took out hill to early but they won so I guess Roberts call was ok with that one. Tonight's game should be interesting I think the bats will be alive for both teams.

Darvish is key. If we can get 4 solid innings from him, we can a combo of Wood, Kershaw, and Jansen.

Hill can even throw to a batter or two.

I think it's going to be a LONG game because both teams will be going through ALL their pitchers.

It's been a great series, exactly what you'd expect from the 2 best teams. The only way it would be better is if the Dodgers won in 5. :)

Sad night for Dodgers and all us Dodger fans. Take away the Yu innings they shut them down and got one back but they didn’t get the job done offensively and even the outs were unproductive and they just left runners stranded. Unfortunately they picked G7 to have their worst game. They failed but failure is the greatest teacher.

yes it's sad. But they made it to the series and they played their *** off to make it go 7 games. It was by no means a cake walk for either team.

Houston played there butt off. they took advantage of Roberts bad management and he gave game 7 away before it even started. Sorry Dodger fans but even money could not buy you a ring this year with no brains to control all of those good players. I thought overall it was a great series to watch. I watched the Dodgers more in the playoffs then I did all season as they are not my team. Lots of talent on the team and it will be interesting to see how they clean the lockers and try to make there team better. I think a few pitchers will be gone for sure.

Not really a baseball fan- sorry Dodger fans, maybe next year.

After watching last night, seeing the interviews and hearing about those Houston players' stories, I think they really did deserve the win.

This is what I wrote the other day agreeing with your management view and I agree with you on yesterday:
Close. Roberts playoff management sux, the base coaching sux and the "bullpen" has taken an unneeded beating. Short and sour.
As disappointed as I am in Roberts I don't think he's alone in this. The front office is every bit as culpable in my opinion. Baseball is a sport it's not science or a math game and this management team makes decisions based on mathematical data and spreadsheets. If the Red Sox were using analytics in the early 2000's when Roberts was on that team in the World Series he wouldnt have been told to steal that base and the Red Sox wouldn't have won series. Play ball!

My plan was I was hoping they'd have two starters getting ready pregame with CK starting and Wood ready to go at a moments notice. Just keep the other starter warm by having him match pitch for pitch in bullpen so if CK throws one on mound then Wood throws one in bp or vice versa which I had hoped for. Yu would've been my third option depending on how game was going. I definitely would never have left Yu in to pitch to Springer again or just walked him intentionally. That was just stupid. Bottom line IMO, Roberts didn't get outmanaged, he over-managed and that was quite possibly the tale of the tape. I'm now depressed again

Lifelong Red Sox/baseball fan here. I watched every pitch of the series (and was lucky enough to go to game seven). I know how it feels to play great ball all season, get to the world series then lose. But blaming the manager is a cop out. Its easy to second guess a manager because you get to assume what you would have done would have worked out better. But the bottom line is the players play the game and the best clutch team always wins a seven game series. Houston's players were more clutch. What happened to Bellinger? He set a record for the most strikeouts in a world series. What about Turner, Puig, Barnes? They all averaged below the Mendoza line in the series. Seager and Taylor didn't do much better, both hit .222. If they all hit as well as they did in the DS and the LCS they would have won in 5.

Take heart, the Dodgers have a young team full of studs. They are shoe-ins for the post season for the next 5 years minimum. There's alot more heartache and possibly a world series championship ahead of you.

Good series and not a favorable outcome for the Dodgers. I really thought they'd use more pitchers. We'll try again next year.

Art, I agree with a lot of what you say. I think I mentioned previously the offense went south and that Houston was a great team but I don't think pointing a finger at the manager and management is a cop out as you do. I believe that between being at the stadium and watching on tv I saw about 150-155 games this season not counting every playoff and series. I've watched the manager make really questionable decisions that worked out in the end because of a great lineup and team chemistry that turned a lot of mismanagement into wins. The players play the game, true, but the manager is steering the boat. Why did the same Lakers team underperform under Del Harris, yet the same team under Phil Jackson won multiple championships starting the following season. Do I think Roberts is a good manager? Overall I do. Do I want him gone, no I don't. I like Roberts. I think Roberts is micromanaged by a front office who believe analytics is the key to winning. They should be providing the pieces, not directing how the pieces should be used game to game and I think they do that. As much as I don't think the starting pitching staff buys in as much as advertised I think they have a great deal of respect for Roberts and want to play for him. With that said, you manage the season and playoffs differently. Ones a marathon and ones a sprint. When playoffs are managed like a marathon you might get the same result but whereas the mistakes can be overlooked easier in a 162 game season because that loss might not have much bearing over the big picture in the playoffs that one mistake can cost you the prize and I think it did this year and I think it did last year as well. So for me to set the record straight, I think that the failure to pull this off was due to a failure on the offense, over management against a team that is incredible that played better. Congrats to the Astros. They earned this. It was a great series one that will be remembered with the very best of them and very entertaining. Springer is an absolute stud and that top 5 is a murderers row for sure. Half that starting lineup played up here in Lancaster as minor leaguers. It was obvious then how much talent the Astros were storing up leading up to last night.

Rik, I hear you. I've always been one to blame the players, but certainly have complained over pitching rotation/substitution decisions. (But only when we lose!!)

Keep in mind that the Dodgers, like most teams (see what the Red Sox and Yankees have done with their managers this year) are driven by analytics. Once a team makes that decision, the manager has to manage by the percentages and can't go by eyeball/gut. Otherwise, its skews the analytics. I hate it. You're right about the Red Sox in 2004, it was all gut decisions that went spectacularly well. And they would have lost had they played the percentages. Unfortunately, that's the way the game is going -- they are taking the decision making out of the hands of the managers and relying on the statisticians.

I was complaining as well when they were winning. Just ask Richard lol. Baseball was a better game when managers managed from guts and experience. It's what made the game great! Now, shifts on the field and managers looking through handbooks like they're trouble shooters you call when your internet is down.

question. coming from someone that doesn't watch the sport. But I did catch game 5 6 and 7.. why did Dodgers keep Darvish in so long in beginning of game 7? He seemed nervous after Astros scored 3. then the homerun... he just looked out of it.. Can't switch out the pitcher on demand?

I don't really know too much baseball rules :lmao:

just started learning football and baseball rules this season.

Yu Garbage pitched terrible in both WS outtings. He pitched a total of just over 4 innings and gave up like 10 runs... SMH

All-in-all, I have to admit, the better team won. We couldn't compete offensively and went 1-13 with RISP. Left 10 stranded, and simply kept swinging at terrible pitches letting all the strikes fly right by us...

Oh well, bring on 2018! GO DODGERS!!!!!
