Me first Mike! ;)

I won't even touch that one Gaybe:rollface:

Yo Brian your tank is freaking awesome! I need to stop by one afternoon if you don't mind.

So, I was just reviewing your system and noticed that it doesn't look like you run a refugium or grow any macro?
Any thoughts on this?
Also, how often to you have to clean and/or replace the filter socks?
Thanks, everything looks amazing as usual!

I love this tank. Im running a similar setup. 240 with ssb, no fuge filter socks and lots of flow.. I just want to come close to what this tank looks like..

very cool do you have a thread on your tank or pictures?

I think he should copy and paste parts of this build thread into a "How to" manual for setting up an SPS tank with crazy colors. Love this setup!! TOTD->Tank of the Decade!

LOL thanks

No worries. The reason I asked is because circulation gives you sporadic readings and some may be high and some may be low. The shimmer effect is actually more intense light in which you will get the higher par readings. Those would be the readings you want because that is what the coral is getting, but not 24/7. And I know you have great flow that creates that shimmer.

Thanks for sharing your findings! It really gives us a wake up call on the needs for these corals.

Yea it was giving a little different values as the flow was changing so the numbers are the median of those values in most cases. I'll keep you posted once I get the readings without the flow

My filter socks are dirty by the 3rd day so I try to shoot for that as a changing day. I don't always make it on every third day but I try. I just don't have the space for a refugium large enough to benefit my tank but if I had the room I would have one

Thanks for the reply. One more question for you...What do you do with the old filter socks? Do you clean them and reuse them or do you simply toss them and replace them with brand new ones?
I'm considering filter socks in my next set up, but I'm curious as to how much extra cost and labor they will add. Thanks!

labor wise they do add work to your system but I think its worth it. I power wash them in the drive way and then wash them in the washing machine with bleach. I have a few sets so I just rotate them out

Cool, thanks! That doesn't sound so bad. The only problem I forsee with that is my wife not letting me wash them in the same washer as our clothes! I personally wouldn't care, but she gets kind of freaked out by fish tank waste!
You should have seen her the first day I tried to clean out my skimmer in the kitchen sink!

lol yea my wife is the same way thats why they must be scrubbed and wash by hand outside first and then lots of bleach used in the washer lol

Your welcome you can look at my thread in the reef discussion forum.

I'll check it out now!

I may have missed it... But what additives do you use? The colors are brilliant and I wanted to know what you add.
Thanks-
CJ

Mako - you're not running ZEO? Just water changes and feeding your fish? Do you feed your coral?

No I always wanted to try Zeo but I decided against it as I didn't know if I could keep up with all the additives that need to be dosed daily plus initial cost.

I do montly water chages of a 100gallons , I feed my fish daily with a mixture of brine, P.E. Mysis, blood worms, and anything else frozen I see at the LFS. I do feed coral food by H20 Life and cyclopese, as well as spot feed the LPS after the lights go off.

You have amazing coral coloration with traditional husbandry! I hope I can get half the colors you do! I'm sticking with traditional husbandry as well.

Keep them awesome pics coming! :)
