THE Tank Build By Aqua Digital

michael,
with years of using bac systems ( zeovit, brightwell and prodibio) i found to be best of setting skimmer for wet skimmate..

IMO

I agree 100% with you, I am wanting to see what this can do both ends of the scale, once I have it as dry as possible I will open its lungs up a bit for a more appropriate skmmate ;)

when i was using zeovit system i tried that with my Bk skimmer and i notice Po4 increase. but, on other hand you have a small tank so maybe this will work for you:)

So a new year and some changes are coming.

I will be shortly incorporating an automatic drain to my Skimz skimmer collection cup.

Parts required

1 x GHL Float switch
1 x RO water solenoid
1 x 1/4" RO threaded to push fit connector
1 x length of 1/4" RO pipe

Method
Install Float switch to lid of collection cup
Install fitting to bottom of collection cup.
Run RO pipe line from skimmer cup to household drain
in this line connect RO solenoid
Ro solenoid controlled by socket on power bar
Float switch set up so it triggers socket and has a delay of 2 minutes or enough time for the collection cup to empty.

If the drain clogs and the float switch stays active for too long the skimmer will shut off.

Yet another great use of the GHL ProfiLux :)

What else is coming?

Well time to try some new lighting, no no before you all jump on me, The Ai's have performed without flaw, they are amazing units and i continue to be a huge fan.

So why the change? Well this whole builds main purpose was to highlight all what can be done with GHL and with the Pacific Sun LED's now controllable over the new GHL PWM interface I thought I would see how these units performed. So in the next few weeks I will be taking delivery of a Black Python 160W 380mm LED fixture. I will report back regularly about the install and how the interface works with GHL and Pacific Sun.

Hmmm what else?

Well after taking on New Era aquaculture foods for canadian distribution we have been playing with their foods for LPS feeding

Here is the body of a thread I posted elsewhere

New Era Marine pellets have long been associated in Europe for its balanced feed for marine fish as well as Chalices and Acans due to the pellets high blend of nutrients and ingredients.

With the feeding success of the Marine pellet, we are working with New Era to bring a dedicated pellet food for Acans (LPS) to the market in the next couple of months, I think you will be impressed how well the food is taken up!!

Here are some photos of the pellet being sucked in readily.

:lol::lol::lol::lol:

I am very curious what salt and dosing you plan to use. If you use RC salt , the high parameters wont let you dose in such small water qty...
And calcium/alk consumption will be small and most likely be replenished by water changes due to small amount of real estate in tank...

This assumes you plan on keeping SPS :) Either way I will for sure be watching! :)

oh it will come ;)

Just added little goby and his partner aka pistol shrimp, that will be all the fish stock. now to get some azoo's!!

Here is the skimmer in action I have this running on a Tetra 100 air pump - way too big but gives the flexibility to adjust perfectly.

wow long time since an update :( sorry guys

so whats news?

Prodibio has really kicked in now, the colours are popping in all directions I am now seeing a vast improvements in blues. The biggest change I made was to stop playing around with various additives and sticking 100% to the prodi dosing, so other than balling I am only using prodi.

I also reduced water changes down to a point only when I see the salinity go from 34 to 34.5 this is my trigger point, the rise is due to the mineral salts being added. It takes about 4 weeks for it to rise, and the GHL salinity probe is an awesome weapon for this, I have it set so it sends an alarm to me when this point is reached.

Next BIG change will be switching over from Ai Lighting to Pacific Sun Black Python, although I love the Ai, I do feel the Pacific sun can offer more in terms of overall lighting effects.

My Ai's will go up for sale in the near future (hint)

Once the new lighting is in place I will post many pictures.

I also have started using the Hanna Colourmeters for PO4 and ALK, I am now having to use the Phosphorous ULR meter as my PO4 is off the scale (zero)

Say it ain't so Michael!!! You are abandoning AI?

On the serious side...if you go with the 5w LED Black Python unit you will have the best combination of LED's on the market. Those 5w units are the missing links offering the power and spectrum that we are missing with AI now.

I hope AI launches a 5w Cree unit in their "Flare" supplemental LED's that will fill the gap. That way I can keep my Sol Blues a little longer.

The biggest switch for me was not having optics, this gives much greater option for mounting height and a more balanced lighting mix between blues and whites, I always got colour seperation before no matter what height.

But yes having the 5w's is a rather nice addition :)
