THE Tank Build By Aqua Digital

have you come up with a programming way to
easily activate and turn off device (skimmer) when you add reefbooster?

I like having feed pause , but if i have to give it up do to this then so be it.

thanks!

Yep put it on a timer for the day only you are going to add the booster.

Big news HUGE new tank build starts this weekend!!!!!!!!!

So as above, the hard work begins tomorrow, will take some getting used to such a change in size but I think it will be worth it :)

 I dont feel out of it now... LOL I have a 28g...

After we moved , other half did not provision space in new house for 180g tank I had going for almost 10 years..

The only place I have space is in my shop... so I fit the largest I had space for :spin1: :)

I laugh... Wife cant believe how much $$ invested in the little sucker..

yer these babies are small but adds a real element of karma to my never quiet office!

First step is to get air pump for the skimmer, then add sand, smal bit of live rock and a few snails, not sure where I will go with it from there, my 3 part containers hold more water 20x over than this kiddie ;)

Ok, I have now completed programming this

Go to socket function and set the skimmer socket to an available timer i.e timer 1.

Invert this socket and also as its a skimmer set the black out delay to 2 minutes or whatever you feel is suitable for your system.

Go to timer xx in this case timer 1 as an example

Decide what day and time (give yourself a window of flexibility here) you wish to dose the reef booster. I have set mine to 7pm on a Saturday as I do water changes on Saturdays and it is best to add reefbooster in the evening.

So my off time is 7pm and I have set the back on time at 9am.

Note - because you have inverted the socket, all times outside this set time the socket will remain on (inverted). Furthermore although the time goes over to sunday you do not tick sunday as a selected event day otherwise on sunday night the skimmer will be turned back off again.

You may find you have to have the skimmer off longer to avoid overflow, and I strongly suggest removing your socks before hand, no your tank filter socks not ya feet socks!

Try it and let me know how you get on ;)

Two options

If dosing more than one vial every two weeks, then split the dose weekly just like I do. So instead of 2 vials every two weeks, do 1 vial every week.

OR, just program as above and let it run, the skimmer being off once a week for this duration will not have any negative effect on your system.

If I leave skimmer on when dosing reefbooster, will it cause issues?

I have been leaving skimmer on, when I dose reefbooster skimmer does stop producing foam but skimmer doesnt over flow either.

Reefbooster is high in Omega-3 oils and will stop the skimmer in its tracks as you have found out, the concern is the skimmer kicking back in too soon and sucking out any goodness from the booster before the system has taken up all it needs.

If you find the skimmer does not start wet skimming before a 2 hour mark then I would say you are good to go, however the boffins at ProdiBio do state to get best out of the booster it is best to feed at night and to leave skimmers off for 12 hours. The guide is 2 hours but this is basic level at about the time it takes a skimmer to recover.

Thanks! I wish ProBio would publish FAQ or more info on their product line documenting what does what in greater detail.. reading meterial on their system... more info than the 1 or 2 page PDF they have.

There is masses amount of detail including PDF downloads on their site, but as this is a GHL sponsored site it is not fair on us to start promoting them here.

In january we will have a RC AQD sponsored area where we will promoting the backside of this product :)

If you want further info until then please email me NOT pm, thanks ;)

Just an interesting Balling update.

I am stiill using the Fauna Marin Balling method as i do believe they one of the best salts you can get. But recently when i replenished the chambers i did not add the trace elements feeling they had little effect on the system colour.

The results were gradual but still noticeable. My pink birds nest went from white tip to brown and lost a lot of colour and my green hairy milli lost a good percentage of colour.

I beleive this was due to not adding the elements, thats the only real change made, so i have put them back and in a week I have seen colouration come back.

My own personal conclusion all be it limited in time, is that if doing the FM balling to get full effect you really do need to add the Trace B's

I will continue on this path and report back, I am sure I will see full re colouration. I will also agree anyone reading the whole thread has seen me change from one thing to another, probably not the best way to get stability, so this is what I have decided to stick to and why

ULNS - ProdiBio - ease of use, great success in my experience and gives good overall coral health.
Mineral supplement - Fauna Marin Balling with Trace elements. great growth, no risk of contaminated salts and Trace elements do seem to have a colouration effect.
Pottasium - as yes not started this, to be honest not had the time, and i think it is important to get the tank stable before adding anything else.

one strange thing I see... I have no algae or blooms anywhere... not in rocks, bottom sand bed, nowhere at all...
BUT I do have growth on the 2 power heads at top of tank. all rocks/top of sand bed and all areas are 100% free and clear, just top half of my two power heads on top of tank are covered.

being ULNS I believe the strong lights are keeping the algae alive on the top half of the two power heads at top of tank.

I have been wanting to pull out the powerheads and scrub them or clean them, what's the best way to fully remove it?

To Coincide with the launch of the Skimz skimmer range by us I thought it would be a good idea to throw one in my sump

OK OK gone a bit over kill here, this is the SM161 rated WAY above my own system, but it fitted in the sumo so why the heck not ;)

So here it is fully assembled and ready to get its feet wet.

The instructions state a water depth of 18cm-24cm, mine is actually at 25cm and there is ample room for adjustment

Starting to dial it in

At this point I must add it has not had a vinegar bath so will take a few days to gunge in.

Here is where it is at right now, air flow half open and the water outlet at 50%

We will have our own RC forum in jan where we will be doing heaps of promos on these ;)
