Quick question about quarantine tanks. I have never ran one, never thought i needed one, nor have i had the room to have one. Now that i have a nice sized fish room, and a larger tank than what i am used to, i have decided to make the room for a 29g quarantine tank.

I am going to use an undrilled 29g tank. 1 power head and a hang on the back filter. Nothing fancy, just enough to get the job done. I am also going to put in some lace rock, but plan to go bare bottom.

Anyone see anything wrong with this setup?

My next question is, what does everyone run through there quarantine tanks for chemicals when they get a new fish?

I plan on purchasing multiple fish at 1 time to reduce any stress that aggressive fish may cause on 1 single fish. I also am going to try to purchase my smaller reef fish(gobies, wrasse, clowns) first and then add my larger fish(tangs, triggers, anthias) later. I know a lot of people purchase fish as they go, but i would like to have a plan for this tank ahead of time...

New Update....

As some of you have more than likely seen, i have put this tank up for Trade/Sale. I will be training for the next year, and 4 out of 5 weeks i will be living out of a suitcase in Hotels. Also my wife and i may be expecting. So, with all of this going on, i figured it may be easier for me to just find a small more self sufficient tank that would be easier to maintain while i am away. Until this happens, the build must go on!! Either way, i want a tank setup before i leave!

On with the update...

Filtration/frag/behind the scenes room is coming along...

As you can see red/white will be my theme during this build. All frag tanks/sumps/water holding tanks etc. Will have red vinyl on the bottom, and all my pipes will be painted red and white. (Red drains/intakes and white for returns.) Also all of my stands that will be built for my filtration/frag tanks will be painted white.

Next on to my "œman cave" painted red and white....

I am also contemplating going bare bottom...

Nice build cbort! If i had to do it over agin i would go either BB or i would say like and inch or less just for looks.. Depends on what method yoh choose to rjn your tank and also livestock you want.. Its coming aling real nice keep it up

Nice, keep it minimalistic with the rock structure, it will look great

Are you going to polish the inside of the tank before adding water to it?

Ya still not sure yet on substrate or no substrate. I am going to have many corals, such as acans, scollys, brains plate corals and such that do not look all that great on a bare bottom tank. I love the look of clean white sand with a bright rainbow colored LPS sitting in the sand. I will probably start bare and then go to sand, I have only made it 1 tank BB so far and it was only up for 6-7 months. It wouldn't have lasted much longer. :)

Thanks KMU, my aquascape is going to try and look like 4 islands some taller than others with lots of room to place the LPS. The one in the front left is actually a cave and hopefully i can acquire a nice fat zebra moray or eventually a dragon moray and that will be where he will reside! :)

As for polishing, i am not sure if i am going to or not. Kinda trying to get this up and going really quick. But ya i really need to.

YES polish it, you will not regret it... just use Novus #3 one pass then novus #2...

I used a battery hand drill with this tool to polish my huge cube...

how much Novus 3 did it take to do your entire tank? then how much novus 2 did it take? I have two bottles of Novus 1 already. I don't have many deep scratches at all, none that i can catch with my finger nail anyway...

Show of Hands....Who has nems with a CL system?? I will be aquiring 3 Neon Green carpets this weekend and want to see what everyone thinks about a CL system and Carpet Nems? I have cared for many Nems but most of them have been bubble tips, and i wasn't running a powerful CL like now. My drains for the CL are both on the rear wall of my tank.

I have one novus #3 and a novus #2, didt use even half bottle of each on the whole tank...

My tank is cycling right now, havent polished the outside of it, will do in the next couple of weeks with just the novus #1

Where did you get your novus from? I am sure i will end up getting some online. Not sure that anyone around here carries it.

And some progress pictures of the fish room...Sump stand is built and i shortened the frag tank to a more manageable height...

It was either this or an iPad 64g 3g. I really want an iPad but decided to wait.

Here are some shots with the standard 18-55mm lens that it came with...
