The Ultimate Eight Foot Softie Reef

A few folks asked me how the tank is doing since I've been MIA for so long, some were even concerned if it was still up. Well here's a pic from tonight.

One of the kids lost the attachment for my tripod, and this is my old HP cam, so excuse the quality. For size reference, the Yellow Fiji Leather in the center is almost 20" across. Approaching 3 year old 8ft Reef

Alright here are a few more from that night. Once again excuse the quality and the little bit of haze on the water, I had just done a water change and fed the tank.

Thank you guys. Here's a quick top down vid of the tank under moonlights:

Well my Australian Duncan colony was moving away from softball sized to volleyball sized and was well overdue for a fragging. The colony has well over 100 heads and originally started from a frag of 7 heads that came directly from Julian Sprung.

I'm guessing I own the biggest colony in the state, if not New England.
I've had this coral for close to 6 years in 2 different systems.

I ended up with about 6 decent sized frags and the mother colony at still around 60ish. The problem is some of the mother colony was bleaching because the colony had grown so large it had shaded itself. I hope everything recovers. :)

I'm a little disappointed the original flower tube broke off, so it was impossible to remount the mother colony. It now sits on some newly makeshift rockwork.

I fragged my Hammer that was also approaching volleyball size. Wish me luck!

nice setup "made in the USA"---love it!

have a question,
I see you have only one light rigged up. do you manually move the light across the tank throughout the day, every day? surely not, so how you go about lighting that whole tank?

This is just a temporary rig until my new lights come in. So for a few days I'm moving it manually. My previous fixture was a 72" AquaticLife T5 unit.

What's the new lighting? Stay tuned. :D
