He was one of the nicest guys I've ever met! He was genuinely sorry that he couldn't find his ticket in time and never once hinted that the situation was unfair or mishandled in any way, shape or form; his behavior was nothing short of honorable! I am humbled by his level of maturity and grace, in light of such unfortunate circumstances.
I wish there was something more I could do him
Does anyone know if he is on RC?
If you find him, get his shipping address and I'll send him a care package

LoL, maybe we can all take a "hakuna matata" lesson from this gentleman ... maybe then this thread won't be in danger of reaching page 20.

I did get to meet you today. You seem like a nice kid, and I feel your frustration. I know you sunk in a lot of tickets for the raffle. Just some thoughts on your 4 comments:
#1 It does seem unfair, but it's pretty much out of the vendor's hands. As a friend of this vendor, I feel it was good karma that he won those prizes. He donates A LOT of himself and product to our reefing community, and has been through hell this year trying to make his store successful. I was there during your initial conversation with him, and didn't really notice any smugness on his part. I understand though, that your perception may have been clouded by how much you wanted that BM
#2 We as hobbyists, dictate the market. So, we really can't put the blame on them. This is not an easy business to be in, and since vendor's livelihood can depend on this, they'd want to make the most out of their trade.
#3 YES! I can only look at so many corals at a time, so the additional eye candy was a bonus.
#4 I'M AN SPS GUY!

plus putting SOCAL faces to names and meeting tons of new people. You can say I get around to a LOT of events and I have to say I have never seen that many reefers under one roof. It was everything and more I thought it would be. I'm just bummed I didn't bring more bags and TONS more product BTW, some call me a SPS guy as well, but I'm truly a mixed reef kind of guy :lol:

As far as the XI's, All I have is a sz.11 All-Star Edition. The Columbias are for me to wear son!!!!

I'm beginning to like this, Sneakers and reefs.... two of my favorite things.... anyone have any 95's to sell/trade? need a 10.
I am the friend who manned his tank. I am also a hobbyist who has each one of the pieces he had for sale. I volunteered so he could look around and go see the other vendors and the "LA scene".
I did not think John was snobby because he did not want to do a trade for a piece that would have a hard time selling because micros are not the scene in our local area.
As for micros- I am not a micro fan; they just don't float my boat. I am a acro and chalice king of guy, so I guess that make me a snob as well. I am a fly fisherman and I understand that analogy, but the diffference in wet/dry flys is much different between acros and micros. Its like fly fishing for trout and tarpon.
If I remember correctly, I remember John offered to sell the BK to you for $350 cash. It those micros are that sweet, why did you not sell them for $350 and get the skimmer?

Yeah, I'm just bummed cuz I totally thought I was going to win that skimmer. I can't sell those micros cuz I haven't had three months of membership yet so I can't post a sell on RC and I don't really have any other means of advertising. And about the snob thing, what I meant was that he had a store that obviously sold other things than acros and he could frag these micros and make more money than he could if he sold the skimmer. That was my plan but as I said, I have to wait two more months. As for chalices, why didn't you tell me?!!! I've got a really interesting echino that is still morphing. Right now it is almost all fluorescent green with purple blotches. I think when it is done it will pure green because when I first got it, it was dying and was mostly purple with green eyes and edges and now it is slowly turning all green and growing and it isn't due to bleaching. Interested?

I was that guy. It was the first single ticket that I bought. And I found it while emptying my pockets. Still have a sour taste but I guess it all happened for a reason, cant question fate. I think the Fragglereef owner won it after me, dang vendors. At least the guy running the raffle was nice enough to give me a consolation prize of a dozen XL RAP tshirts that ill donate to some homeless shelter in san diego.
Over all I had a good time tho.

That is the problem about posting when we are emotional- sometimes things come out not like they are in our head.
I think if you upgrade your account, you get pictures and selling capabilities. I would love to see a picture of that chalice when it is done morphing.
Johns store developed out of his garage's internet business and he open his store under two years ago. Stores in Sacramento are a lot different. They do not sell frags, except his store, but I have only seen two micro frags ever in his store; and they are usually pushed under a rock.
