~~ Thread of the Month ~~ Ghetto Tanks!

Dang guys, I feel much better about some of the rig-jobs I've produced over the years... :)

I wish I had pictures of my first reef, with the 36" shop light balanced on the rim of the tank or the aluminum foil reflector I used for my first dual VHO light setup on my 55...

I've spend all evening (at work) reading this thread. I too feel much better. I've just recently set up a salty, on a budget. I'll have to take some pictures this weekend and post for everyone to critique. I'm so cheap, I hate spending money if I think I can build it myself. Needless to say, the aesthetics suffer. Pics to come...

Wow now I dont feel so bad about my set-up!!! I still use my ghetto one though!!! I had a eclpse filter and light combo, when i upgraded to a wet/dry filter I still needed the light so I used bungee cords and "hung" it from the ceiling. I was looking for the suspended look I guess....

My skimmer has spinners

My Damsiel is a pimp

My live sand has crabs

AND

My Live Rock is on crack

No offense, please. Just being creative.

I love this thread! Im only on pg7 but I need to post my ghetto rock prop system pics. It was 2 nested kiddie pools fed into by a 150 tall and an 8' acrylic tank. Lighting was held up by 2 saw horses and used shop lights and people old used bulbs for lighting. The Kalk dosing was done from a bucket that I would add water too and tied the drip line around the wires going to the shop lights.

The setup looks ghetto but I made over 2000# of really nice live rock using dead dry rock!

I would like to say that this is my favorite thread of all time. Thank you all for your ghetto pride!

And now for my first attempt at a sump... man, I wish I had pictures, it was so ghetto fabulous. Picture a 20 gal semitransparent tub from Walmart. The dividers were acrylic sheets I cut using my dremmel tool on my living room floor. After gluing them to the tub sides with silicone, I underestimated the amount of bowing that would occur once the tub was filled with water. As a result, I had a really ugly sump with semi closed off chambers. The best thing is that it had flip lids that now look like swiss cheese from all my drilling and moving and drilling and moving. It was the ultimate ghetto but worked fabulously. =)
