Through the Looking Glass

Had the day off today. Besides completing a bunch of errands, I took pictures--so much fun. Reminder (Caveat), I have a bow front tank so almost all my pictures are taken from the top down, otherwise lots of image distortion with the curved front tank glass. What that really means is colors are much more awesome topdown that through the front glass--think of clams but not quite as dramatic when looking at coral.

A wild colony that I have had for a couple of years, I believe

One of those RR Asia (to me that means they look a lot like some of the super duper acros that everyone wants but can't find) Have to see how this colors up over time.

a few more

RR orange passion, got a small frag a while back from a good friend. Its getting better and better looking

Red hyacinth, similar color to red planet except no green in it. It doesn't encrust much (as opposed to the red planet) and it sends out branches like a hand. Interesting tabling acro

Not an sps, but not sure what to call it (Yes, Jason Fox Jack o Lantern)

What is this? I love it!

The first one is a frag from a dear friend. I don't know it's name. The red hyacinth is pretty. The branches in the center are striking, the branches on the edge are not as deeply colored but those white growing tips lets me know it is happy

This is pretty interesting, not a color that you see everyday. Yup, orange, have had it just for a couple weeks or so.

Oldie that you don't see too often anymore but really awesome--atleast I think so. Jose's candlelight (although I can't find a decent photo of it on the internet--it was given to me as "Jose's candlelight acro--hopefully the id is correct)

I really like this colony. Started out as a wild frag from a nearby retailer. I have never seen anything like it and I have never seen frags again in the store of this colony.

Love the last one of the wild colony.. That's a color combo I've never seen before.. Tanks looking great as usual.

I have been making my own water for about a week plus now. My parameters were always stable but something goofy was going on with my water. So after all these years, I did the responsible thing and am making my own ro/di and saltwater I want to turn over my old tank water with new water but not too fast but quickly nonetheless. I have been changing 5 gallons about 12 hours apart for the first week, so I have changed out about 70 gallons on my 180 this week at about 5% a day. Now I am changing out 5 gallons a day for the last couple of days and will continue to do so for a while. The cool thing is that i do not have to turn anything off except the ATO when I change out 5 gallons, so it ends up pretty fast. Out to the garage, fill up a 5 gallon jug, in the house, turn off ATO, drain 5 gallons, empty 5 gallon jug of new saltwater into tank, turn on ATO and done. About 5 to 10 minutes and its all done, that includes staring at the tank for a couple of minutes as well. Coral are responding really really well. Some of my unhappy sps, are sticking their polyps out once again, phew!

So that means if my coral are happy, I can flood my thread with pictures. I am so delighted by that.

Good, now I have your attention.

I had to chop out a colony for this frag, but I think it will be worth it. This frag is yellow in daylight (sunlight), but with my 20k set up, it looks green. Really strange why I can't capture the true yellow of it. The polyps are much deeper red as well. Maybe its just that it was fragged yesterday and its a little unhappy, who knows. This photography thing is a challenge for me always.

Pretty unusual coral, but I know it will turn out to be stunning. The mother colony explodes with color! Just cut yesterday as well

Not so happy with dipping but still a howler. Another fresh cut frag from yesterday.

This one will light up hopefully, I have had it for a month or more. Tiny frag but growing well. It has struggled a little bit with my goofy water.

Bright yellow in sunlight as well but a little green in my tank. Another new frag cut from yesterday, the mother has branches really close to each other and very, very yellow.

Last week, I ordered some online frags from a strictly online vendor. The colony pictures were great but the frags are beige for now. Ill track them for a while and see if they do that magical thing and color up appropriately. I am not going to mention the online vendor, no point. Between shipping and dipping anything can turn out beige for a while.

And now a quick update on my frag tank. I have a separate 10 gallon frag tank, not connected to anything but itself. No sump, no refugium, just chaeto, an in the tank scrubber( that has not apparently done all that much) and a few little tiny fish. Bare bottom, but with japanese ceramic cylinders and tiles on the bottom. I use tank water to change out a few gallons a week. Now with my healthier water also seeing some nice changes, its not like all is good but I have struggled to get colored frags in this frag tank. Montis are now doing well, acros not yet.

One of those frags is reminding me of a new acro that was released the other day:hmm3: I love the rest of them as we'll. you've been on a shopping spree as of lately.

I have been on a shopping spree of late. It has been really fun.

Looking awesome as always!. I need to get a piece of that pink acro when it grows up!

Just need a little time to get it bigger.

I virtually don't take pictures through the front glass because my tank is a bow front. All kinds of weird distortion on macro shots through curved glass. Anyway, I tried today and a few came out ok.

Dang those new purchases are awesome. You must have some great friends =).

With the mail order I've been thru the same thing and that makes me apprehensive to spend good money on stuff I like not seeing it in person. I have a high dollar named frag that refuses to color up but looked perfect in the wysiwyg. I think I will make an exception on your next Fs thread if I catch it in time if you send them to nor-cal =).

You should mention because shipping and dipping is what we all do. It looks like the vendor sent you bad frags.
