Thumbs up for Ozone!

Thrlride,

Your tanks are really nice, do you have the dual 6100's dialed down or at full power?

Also, I couldn't find pics of your filtration system on your nice website.

How much flow are you going to go with on the 180?

mikeguerrero,

Thanks for the complements. The 90 has one 6000 and one 6100. Both are at full blast right now. The 180 will have two 6100's and maybe one of the new ecotech pumps if they decide to make the price reasonable. I'm hoping that is enough flow in the beginning.

I will see what I can dig up for filtration. Mainly I have a 30 gallon sump with the ASM G3 skimmer in it and a small fuge in the sump as well. That makes up the majority of my filtration. I also have a tlf phosban reactor running.

I'm seeing a very very slow increase. I haven't broke past the 360 range yet and it is going full blast. Luft is set at 5. Any higher and the top of the dryer will blow off from the pressure inside the tube. Apparently the unit can't handle more then 5 as the back pressure pops the dryer top. In case anyone needs the info, it's the 50 mg/h sanders unit.

how hard would it be to buy the pellets and make your own air dryer? Surely it would be somewhat easy to make a 1000 sized unit...

I've seen a few homemade ones here on RC. Cant remember where I saw them though. So it's certainly possible.

Jay, I took a drill bit and drilled the ends out a little. This seemed to help alot. My end cap doesnt pop off any more. Boy what a mess.

I guess the real question is at what point is pumping too much air into the generator not a good thing.

Thrlride,

You can daisy chain two 500 g airdryers if you want to. Very easy to do and the luft pump can plow right through two, hands down.

Mine rips right through one with only the setting at 4 for the luft pump. Remember the dial is marked up to 10.

Well the problem really isn't the the ozonizer or the beads. The maximum amount of air that can run through the ozone unit is approximately 5-6 on the luft pump. After that, back pressure builds and pops the top off. The 100 mh/h unit probably could handle more but I would test it first.

I'm gonna contact MD and see if I can get more beads as it wasn't sealed right when I got it and I lost about 30%.

i should of asked this a while ago but i thought i was good - for the milwaukee orp controller probe, are you suppose to submerge the whole probe, or just have the tip of it in water. ive had it in the setup for two weeks now, fully submerged close to the bottom of the tank. after the first week i cleaned it in vinegar and placed it back in the tank. mid into the second week the meter read 800. it was cleaned again returned. today it read 482 (no ozone has been run during this two week period). when i removed the probe however i noticed rust on the top of the probe, where the cord meets the probe. was this part not suppose to get wet? if not then i definitely feel silly? would this cause the wild readings, or not? it was working fine the first week. thanks for reading this.

I have mine submerged all the way. It shouldn't matter at all. I'm not sure on the rust part but that doesn't sound good.

sounds like water is touching bare wire... if so, your probe is kissed. Mybe a good clean and some silicon could fix that... give 'er a try.

I would have it free floating imo. That way it doesnt touch gunk on the bottom of the tank. The probe is bare wire reptoreef. There is no protective glass like the ph. It has a 90 day or 6 month warranty on the probe I believe. Call their support up.

Does ozone leave a bad taste in your mouth? Me and mywife have noticed this wierd taste in our mouth the last day. I have turned it off.

What are the dangers of not having the skimmer return not going through carbon? Doesn't O3 breakdown extremely fast in water?

I have had O3 in my tank for about 1 month. Unreal, thanks to this thread and the other 40 pager!

I also use a 250 g air dryer but it only last about 5 to 6 days (on 100% on my skimmer). So I bought 2 lbs of dessicant / silica gel on Ebay. $14 shipped. Works perfect and the 2 lbs gives me about 3 refills. So I bake all beads on 1-month intervals.

Sometimes I run carbon and sometimes I do not. The ozone only last a few seconds after the skimmer. I am only running 17 mv on my 75 gallon and the ORP is set to 350. Goes to 361 at night and backs down during the day (normal).

oh, ozone will not leave a taste in your mouth. It would leave your throat soar if too high, headaches etc. At that is what I have seen having (3) o3 air units in my house for my 3 dogs.

The probes only need to be in the water midway up on the probe. If you submerge them, you risk a leak around where the wire inputs, not good.

Ok. It's just odd because it is like our tongues are going dry and they just feel wierd. I guess it could be something else in our house. Only thing I changed is the dryer beads, luft pump, and the ozone.

I guess I'll have to investigate.

Thanks guys.
