Tierra del Fuego coral

Any chance you noticed the difference in lighting intensity?

not sure yet...
but here is the vendor's picture when I got it in december :

since then the base of the coral has gotten greener and the coralites more pink...

strange RP/TDF indeed !

I'm on a personal quest to find just a few nice acros to add to the present list of 6-8 pieces that will be grown out to large colonies, sooooo.........

I've been looking at a lot of acros lately on the net , & the re-branding & photographs by these on line vedors is insane.

There are literally a half dozen corals with 6 different names & they would all look the same to most people that aren't picking out some tiny rim on a corallite or tip if they are in fact different. What's funny to me, is when the polyps come out. they cover all/most of these subtle colors.

To sum it up................if you took these six supposedly different acros & took pics from a foot away at the front of the tank most people wouldn't know the difference.

Just sayin...............& it's not all about the original acro here but a few other "HOT" acros.

Do your research & don't get sucked up in the hype. I know I gotta see it in person before I'm gonna plunk down $100- 250+ for a tiny frag.

I don't necessarily buy into the hyped up names but it is easier to visualize the coral using the "names" instead of, say, pink clathrata or what not. I personally won't buy any frag just because of the name. In fact, when I bought this frag, it was labeled pink millipora (it was a tiny pink frag, actually). The contrasting green base just showed up when it started to encrust on the plug. So, I do not care about names.

never bought a frag for more than 50$ here ! and it was a 2" inches frag with 3-4 branchlets...

But I love try to find the name (whether scientific name or "common" name) of my corals to be able to share informations on it with others that might have the same coral : growth pattern, light and flow preference, what the coral might look like when larger etc...
It is actually one of the aspect of this hobby that I liked the most !
even if it is not an accurate science for sure !

I got a pice of the TDF yesterday at the show in OC
And I have the RP at home,I'm going to cut a similar frag like the TDF and put them next to each other let gh grow and see if there is any difference between those two And let the pictures speek for them selfs !

^^I agree. I've never seen one in person look like the ones pictured. I've seen both as colonies side by side and the differences were minimal.
