Mixing medication is worse than the ich IMO :(

I've never had any problems mixing prazipro w/ cupramine. My MI made it thru this combo just fine.

Yep, its been done many times and I have seen it done at the lfs's as well.

I guess my post was more about responding towards a solution instead of reacting because of the problems. I guess I am just a little more old school and do not like to see fish being over medicated and then fresh water dipped in a short amount of time. I guess I have seen too many ill results in that plan of action.

Prazi and copper are fine. It is the formalin and prazi and copper I am worried about.

He needs to remove the formalin, and medicate with the copper and if he sees flukes or notices that the fish are eating and getting skinny then administer Prazi.

Well said.

the formalin was out of the system before i added the cupramine. i did a big water change and ran 2 big bags of carbon. i am going to treat with prazi to be safe that it's not something else. thanks for the help!

The angel's been eating coral and started to eat small pieces from Rod's Food so why jump the conclusion it has internal parasites and treat it with Prazi? As Chris said Prazi will cause a loss of appetite which will bring you back to square one. Last year it took my Colini 5.5 weeks to eat frozen. If you have good algae growth on your liverocks I wouldn't worry too much for the moment. This angel has gone through a lot of travel and different environments in such a short time I would give it a week to de-stress before dosing any meds (unless for emergency).

Best of luck with such a beautiful angel!

;)

the only reason i was starting to think it had parasites and getting worried is because people on RC told me they think it has them. i guess i won't treat the angel for anything unless i see any signs of diseases.

IMO, it does more harm then good to treat a fish unless you have a very good idea of what you are trying to treat.

after i get the 180g set up the 34g will pretty much be a QT once the corals and inverts are out.
I thought you said your going to set up a 120 gallon?

On 6/25/09 you stated you thought your latz had ich so you moved them to QT. If FW dips removed the spots then they don't have ich they have velvet. Either way there is a very high probability that there is ich or velvet in the angels tank so keep an eye out. A tank with ich/velvet needs to be fishless for at least 4 weeks (6 is better) before putting fish in there.

My understanding of ich is the the trophants (sp?) can live up to 6 weeks without a host. So 6 weeks would be a minimum time to leave a tank fishless that has ich, 8 weeks would be better.

I guess there must be a thread on the Latz. This may explain why the angel is not eating as aggressive for a Centropyge which should always be grazing live rocks.

Velvet is not as apparent when the fish has a light body color and I would look carefully against the orange. My experience with velvet is that it hits fast and 0.5 level of Cupramine is not strong enough to cure it. I was fortunate only losing a few fish where it could easily wiped out the entire tank. I'm not trying to scare you but just a heads up.

Very well stated and I agree completely. You are going to seriously stress this poor fish putting it through a battery of medication treatment when, at this point, it just needs to settle in. Alot of angels will not eat after arrival. I have had angels not eat for weeks and then one day accept frozen food. Give it time, observe for parasites and disease, remove to a QT/Hospital tank, and treat appropriately.

Yikes, velvet is no joke. It wiped out my tank almost two years ago and it strikes fast. If you start to see visible symptoms, it is usually already too late......Ich is manageable, velvet is usually devastating.
