Hi Guys

I got a purple tang 36 hours ago and he was eating at theach lfs before I got him. I'm trying to get him to eat and am giving him the same food I saw him eat at the lfs which was mysis. He's not having any of it when I offer it to him. Tried garlic guard and selcon. Won't even try it. I have him in a 20 gallon l qt same as what he has been in for the past 2 weeks at the lfs. Have a power head, 2 pvc elbow, hob filter and heater.

Matched salinity to lfs 1.020 my temp is 78.5. Does anyone have tips to try and get it to eat? Mind you he's only about 2" so still pretty small.

Give it time. It is not uncommon for a fish to take a day or two (or 3) to get used to it's new home.. Keep up with trying a variety and soon enough it will start eating for you.

are you testing, to make sure your ammonia is zero. just a thought

also i like to put something in the tank with it. like pvc pipe, just so it can hide if it chooses too.

clip some algae, and I also use vitachem with a small amount of brine and mysis when trying to get new fish going.

Just give it a little time. What usually happens is that after a few days to a week, the fish will start to eat; and whatever food was being offered at the time will, if course, be the 'miracle' food.
