TMC Signature 600

All of the SPS have completely browned / paled out, though the LPS seem to gave bounced right back.

And the brown SPS sticks :hmm1:

DSC_0183 by DEAF N1NJA, on Flickr

Can the old SPS bodies regain colour or will it only be new growth?

Nah, moving the SPS will always brown them out (or any major stress for that matter), but they can and will color back up.

When one of my vortechs died, I waited to try to fix it for a week while all of my SPS browned out (and broke my heart). I just threw up my arms and bought a new one to replace it, and it took probably 2-3 weeks, but they all ended up coloring back up again. Just takes some time (and stability).

Cheers for the reassurance.

More practice with the Nikon, trying to get to grips with the White Balance, so more for my reference than anything :

So lost / losing most of my SPS to RTN / STN / stripping and the polyps are none existent, along with a massive diatom bloom on the new plating rock.

Maybe best to leave a few months for the system to mature?

So I had a real n00b moment this week, turned the return pump off to take some top down photos of my brown sticks, 24 hours later I realised i'd not turned it back on! The result is more SPS loss, and colour loss on my Zoas and Acans.

Added a couple of new Zoas to cheer me up :

Ordered a Deltec SC 1351 skimmer today, hopefully an upgrade on the current skimmer.

Cloudy water again, 7 days after the last time. Bacterial bloom as basically it's a 'new' system again?

Not running a filter sock like I was pre rescape.

Parameters the same as last week :

KH - 9.3

Magnesium 1260

Alkalinity - 415

Phosphate - 0.03

Nitrate 7.5 (used to be undetectable but running high since the escape)

Also lost the red planet SPS to RTN overnight.

Other SPS still brown and no colour, bar the Monti Forest Flame.

Sorry for your losses.

Bacteria blooms are independent of the nitrogen cycle, if that's what you're alluding to. Your tank will still be plenty of cycled even if you had a white-out bacterial bloom.

Are you using ceramic pure biomedia or any other biomedia? I think it can help stabilize the nutrient cycle in the tank just by having more surfaces.

The brown can take about a month to go away and for the colors to come back. Same happened to me after my vortech burnt out and I replaced it with a much lower flow korallia nano for a week. All of my acros browned out and took a while to recover. Fortunately they all recovered.

Nitrates and phosphate levels are okay if they're stable. I would consider adding a macroalgae to provide some nutrient stability until the tank is back on the right foot.

ReefWreak

I'm using 5 litres of Siporax sintered glass biomedia in the sump

I've just started up a 'refugium' in the second chamber using a PC lighting cheato

My Forest Fire is showing good polyp extension, just the growth tips are darkening and being covered by polyps now :

Both the tri colour acro and blue gomezi are very, very brown still, not a hint of colour. I feel the tri is regressing as parts are showing no PE now.

Keeping things simple and regimented, small regular feeds, 10% weekly water changes and only adding Acans / Zoas - NO sps until I see an improvement in mine.

Sounds about right. I changed skimmers 3 times when I set up my 120g tank, and twice in my biocube.

Awesome skimmer (and setup in general). I love Deltec. I had their PF501 calcium reactor on my 120g tank, and the reactor was fantastic. And their media is always excellent as well, both their calcium media and their ROWAphos GFO media.

I'm still struggling to get the right skim / foam height out of it, but i'll persevere.

Controllers, doser etc added to the side cabinet :

Nice set up. How much are you feeding? I've realized when you have a decent skimmer like this you're hard pressed to truly overfeed between a skimmer and a clean up crew.

Wow a lot of ups and downs here. Nice equipment list and setup. I don't know if I could ever stand the bare bottom - but it certainly is supposed to make things easier!

Cheers

I don't really have a fixed regime when it comes to feeding, purely because my shift pattern changes every day / night / week (the joys of retail!)

An average day it'll consist of a pinch of pellets, a few ml of Nyos 'Gold Pods' and maybe half a cube of frozen for the 6 fish I have.

The Deltec is certainly a revelation, it pulls out a lot of dark skimmate - one thing i'm learning though is the frequent changes in water tension over a given day have a big effect on a skimmers ability to work properly (or at all!)

I follow the train of thought that buying the best I can afford can only increase my chances of success (and maybe make up for my shortfall in talent :roll face: )

The amount of detritus buildup on the bottom is shocking - and most of not all of this ended up in the substrate in the past!

The SPS seem to have stabilised (bar the tri colour Acro which has nearly completely stripped now)

I have a small selection of frags on their way this week too :

- Rainbow montipora
- Sunset montipora
- Superman montipora
- Granny Smith zoa
- Purple heart zoa
- Purple death paly / zoa
- Toxic green torch

Placed an order for 2 x ATI Blue Plus and 1 x Coral Plus to improve the overall colour temps.

Corals arrived yesterday, a quick snap of the Montipora :

Paramaters as of today :

SG - 1.026
KH - 6.7
Cal - 415
Mag - 1240
NO3 - 2.5
PO4 - 0.01

I'm hoping that increasing the Magnesium closer to 1300 and KH to 7.5 will promote some actual growth and colouration on the SPS.....

The good - New ATI bulbs arrived today, so my current combination is :

Coral +
Blue +
Purple +
Blue +
LEDs
Coral +
Blue +
Actinic +
Blue +

Leaving me with this :

The bad - One of my MP10 wetsides has decided to give up the ghost - so i'm having to decide between a brand new MP10W QD, QD controller upgrade + new wetside combo or try a Gyre 130 in there... either way it'll have to wait a month or so
