thanks fellas! Another supplement bottle to sit up on my shelf never to be used again, haha. Gotta love it.

I'll be trying the powdered stuff as soon as I get it in. I'll also take some before and after pictures to share.

Thanks again!

I believe Jeff has, I'll PM him about this thread.

I ran amino acids even before dosing vitamin c and then during it. I didnt really see any improvements. I ended up stopping because of a diaton explosion.

would it be better to store the vc in a ziploc bag or something that allows you to get as much air out as possible. because everytime you open the bottle, new air and moisture gets inside the bottle i would think. i'd like a way to extend the life of my vc, anybody else have any other techniques?

I move 1/2 of the bottle into a smaller bottle to keep by my tank. the rest stays in the fridge where I don't use it until the 1st half is used.

New update!!!

You must have a skimmer on your tank to use this product. I believe this will be true for ANY carbon dosing. Without the skimmer, there is no way to remove the dissolved organics the VC breaks down & your system could crash. Especially in a small tank, at very high doses.

Please read: http://reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1593646

thanks so much puffer, good idea. and thanks for the warning, got it just in time, i just started dosing in my nano and it has no skimmer.

Hey puff, So should my skimmer run always. Or should I turn it off for a few hours after dosing? And I also have a phos reactor running with activated carbon, should I turn that off to? thanks.

You may continue using your skimmer all the time & also carbon, while dosing. I always dose after where my chemical filtration (Purigen) is placed in my sump.

sabazerehi, I'm not sure at what levels of dosing this could cause a system to crash. The fellow in the link was dosing at 100ppm for zoa pox. Can you add a nano skimmer on there?

I am back on vit. c cant believe the change, forgot how fast algea grew when you stop. Chaeto grew out of tank, fuge walls became covered. zoo's closed up, colors deminished when i stopped. But all is back to looking great after a week of going again. I am doing between 5 and 7 grams 2x a day

I stopped for a month and the only thing that changed was an increase in nitrates because I feed so heavily. If corals close back up after stopping VC, I would look for a cause while dosing. Maybe toxins, leather corals, parameters off, etc...

just a sidenote...when referencing how much you dose, i think it would be more useful to use your ppm instead of your volume...5 to 7 grams in my tank would raise my water leverl ;-)....ppms would be a constant value to compare among tanks....science teacher....just my .02 :-)

i was dosing roughly 1/8 of a tsp (sorry don't know the ppm). i had some zoas with zoas pox that i dipped with furan 2 anyways but i though the vc could help more. i don't think my vc is working anymore anyways, i have some zoas that seem to be melting in my larger 40g and the vc isn't doing anything for them as far as i can tell and i've been dosing continuously for the past few weeks now (i took a break before that). i'm at half a tsp for my 40g (total volume 50g) and i have some zoa pox in there as well.
i contacted iherb about the bad vc and i must say great customer service, got back to me within the same day and said they'd ship me a new bottle with no extra charge and i don't have to ship the old one back.

the smell it's acquired and when i emailed iherb about it, saying that it has a smell, they didn't tell me it wasn't bad so i just assumed there's a chance it is.

I thaught I had a bad smelling bottle of vitamin c also. Everytime I held it up to my nose it smelled terrible. Then I realized it was my finger that smelled :p.

ya when i open the bottle the vc smells a little strange and it does smell a little citrus-ey so it is the vc not my finger :).
