Trident tailed Achilles Goldrim Hybrid

Kevin will never mention a fish in sneak peek and then sell it privately, never...
My guess is there was something wrong with the fish and the wisely chose not to list it...

I wish that was true, I personally have seen this done. I mentioned in another thread and most people agree with LADD that it is their perogative to do as they wish.

We will soon enough find out next week sometime since if it never comes back up for sneak peek/sale then clearly someone else purchased the fish before it was available to the rest of us. I don't believe the fish suddenly perished, they offer much more difficult fish to feed and keep alive on a regular basis then a AT. I didn't say that the fish was bought by someone or someplace early because of their status to start a debate, since it makes no difference to me and I personally believe that certain fish (like this one) should have a higher priority of going to a aquarium or very large system over someone who gets lucky and buys the fish because they were able to hit the refresh button more than the next person only to house the fish inadequately

Greetings,
We work very hard to be fair to each and every one of our valued customers with offerings that are listed in the Sneak Peak and subsequent Divers Den postings each day.

This beautiful and unusual Acanthurus is doing just fine, and a few reasons why I didn't list the fish in the Divers Den on Friday.

First, the image was not up to our standards as I wasn't happy with how it was presented.

Secondly, I am still debating if this beautiful specimen is an aberrant Achilles or a hybrid as it still has juvenile markings and difficult to say with 100% certainty. The coloration at the base of the dorsal and anal fin are yellow and orange, rather than solid yellow like most Hybrid Achilles, and caudal fin is more orange than yellow/orange.

The anomaly of a "trident tail" is not overly pronounced like with some Achilles, but is there, residing in the center most part of the clear area of the caudal fin.

Ill give the fish some more time in our primary fish system so I can continue to observe and assess, then list in the Divers Den when the time is right.

Thanks for all the interest, and have a safe and happy holiday weekend.

Kindest Regards,
Kevin Kohen

Thanks for clearing this up for us Kevin, can't wait to see the guy come up for sale!

Ted,

I have read Kevin's post, he replied very carefully saying he tries to "be very fair". In this case it was not sold to anyone else, but that does not mean it wasn't done before. Again I have seen this done before personally. I thought it was first come first served when Divers Den was updated also as advertised by LA/DD. If Kevin wants to address my post specifically and clarify it that would be another matter.

Hopefully we can see a pic of this this fish :)

I would love to know how you know this..Speaking first hand, I have Kevin and everybody else in his office about buying a fish from him that I saw in a sneak peek...I have even asked, many times, if there is a "super secret" list that goes out containing a list of fish he has in his office tanks or other tanks...he always says the same, "I want to give everybody a fair shot at buying the fish. Fair is fair."
I think you are way off on this, sorry, just my .02....
Have a great day!

Sorry, neglected to ask..

can you describe your experience when this occurred?

I rather regret having implied less than fair dealings in my earlier post! Can I take it back :) I am a HUGE fan of DD/LA and have had nothing but positive experiences with them.

I have nothing but good experiences with them also. They have excellent customer service with great livestock. The other subject is for another thread and time. Now hopefully we can still see this fish

Well another week has passed and no mention of the tang again from DD, not getting a great feeling that it will be on the list again

I got the impression they'd have the fish for a while longer, since Kevin wants to watch for teardrop development to decide if it's a different looking goldrim hybrid or aberrant achilles. There's so much room for variation in hybrids, imo they should just list it and go with that! :)

I agree, the people who really want to buy this fish because of what it is, abberant or hybrid aside. Just label it as "Coolest Trident tailed Achilles/Goldrim you have ever seen"... Sorry! This is Sold!
