I had a beautiful, healthy, yellow Fiji leather coral several years ago. It acclimated quickly to my 75 gallon tank and I kept it for a couple of years. Then it became dislodged and was torn. I treated it but it died.
Recently I decided to get another Fiji leather. I purchases one online and it arrived looking rather sick. In a few days it was decomposing. The company replaced the coral, but the replacement arrived looking "dusky" sort of yellow-brown. I acclimated it slowly and in a couple of days it tuurned a dark brown/black and died.
I have another variety of Sarcophyton and two elegance corals, among others LPS varieties, and they are all thriving.
I've checked my water: Nitrates = 30; Nitrites = 0; pH = 8.4; Ca+ = 440; Alkalinity (KH) = 300 ppm or 3.5 meq/L; Salinity = 1.023.
