trouble with hammerhead

hammerhead has shrinking tentacles and some look dead stringy and came loose from coral. no one bothering it. it is 1 week in my tank moderate flow thought flow was strong so moved head slightly to reduce flow. tentacles were never out very far but they looked plump until last few days. u can see in photo where missing tentacles please help.

what are your tanks water parameters

according to most people on this sit water is perfect, no nutrients, salinity 1.024, ph 8.2, dkh 12, calcium 420, 77 degrees, cal reactor, chiller, skimmer, keeps things stable all other inhabitants are healthy.

dkh, to me, is really high!!!

i would turn the co2 off right now for the ca reactor but leave the reactor running.

then monitor until it reaches 8 or so.

actually, i am curious if if really 'need' a ca reactor. you dont look like you have a lot of ca demanding corals to warrant a ca reactor. perhaps kalkwasser and/or two part would provide a more stable environment.

I would think just the two part in this case--it would bring alot of stability to water parameters

dKh of 12 is on the high side of the accepted range of 8-12, it certainly is not dangerous to corals, and if anything might promote a little more corraline. I might be better to bring it down a bit because the comfort zone could be easily challenged if it raised more

the dKH level on the high side should not affect this coral

my hammerhead simply will not tolerate any"direct" flow at itl and it closes up--similarily with my frogspawn

Did your frogspawn look like this when you purchased it ---I wonder by your description if you purchased one that was very stressed out

hammer coral is the pink and green one to the right of that huge toadstool on the left side of the tank

I goofed in the previous post--I meant to say hammer coral

cviacona, how often do you do partials? Also my hammer does not like too much current, just enough to keep all of it's hammers flowing. Too much turbulence will cause it to recede to it's skeleton. How much lighting do you have and what type, halide, PC, T5's? I noticed that you may have some red cyano under the hammer on the sand. What are your nitrite and nitrate readings, have you checked for amonia?

Looks like DOA . Sometimes the shipping dooms the poor things.

GOOD NEWS...I've seen a few of these come back and when they do they are hardy, extremely hardy.

Your alk is a little high lower it a bit and if all goes well it might make it.

It appears to me it might be getting too much flow with that powerhead pointed right at it.
