Trouble with new glass cardinals

got a small group of glass cardinals last week. Knew they are poor shippers but didn't know that they are picky eaters!

Tried PE mysis, Hikari mysis, frozen brine shrimp, med and small size pellets, black worms, frozen blood worms and nothing interest them.

Right now the only food they are eating is newly hatched baby brine shrimps. Any suggestions at all? Would I be able to sustain them on baby brine for an extended period of time? Thanks

Sorry to hear that. :/ They're one of my favorite fish, but frustrating to get established. Have you tried cyclop-eeze yet? I've never kept a fish who didn't go nuts for it.

yes, already tried cyclopeeze and capelin roe as well. And also added garlic to them and such. However, being day three, they are eating baby brine a lot more aggressively. Only issue is they are not willing to sample anything else.

Maybe you could start gradually mixing the baby brine with other foods of about the same size, and see if they'll snap them up together?

I'll keep trying.. I am throwing in new food type with the baby brine every day. And I'm also try to raise some of these baby brine on the side. But I have never had luck culturing brine shrimp.

Get them eating the live brine aggressively. Then try to wean them on to frozen mysis. Mine are shy until the first one starts to eat. Then they feed aggressively.

Just managed to get them on to blackworms tonight! Which is great, a lot less work than baby brine shrimp and a lot better for the fish. It shouldn't been too hard from here. Lost 1 out of 14 fish and only 1 out of the remaining 13 fish is not eating aggressively. Hopefully I'll ended up with at least 12!

Thanks for your help!

Steve,

I wish we could get Nutramar Ova in Canada! I've looked everywhere and I'm willing to order this online but I can't find any dealer carries it. And I don't believe anyone would ship this across the border.

are you talking about the blue eyed glass cards....mine eat any and everything....but i mostly feed fresh/frozen homemake food(krill, scallops, shrimp, seaweed, topico eggs,etc)....they love it, stated with 5 6 months ago and now have 3 well established fish.....at night they swim the water column....its cool to mwatch at night....my favorite time...everything is more attive....fish,coral,inverts etc....good luck.....

'Yes, they are the same fish. From what I've gathered, they are know to be poor shippers but rarely heard about having problem trying to get them to eat.

When I saw the group they looked good, so I took all 14 of them. Lost one on the first dayu and so far no sign of parasites. Finally got them on blackworms.

Hopefully they will take mysis soon as that is the staple food for all my fish.
