TRUE Western Australian Personifer Angelfish on LA tonight!!!

KT, please refrain from the profanity.

Let's not immediately go into attack mode when someone questions a price on a fish. It isn't life and death.

If you're into the rarity of things, then I would think it would be worth it, as far as pricing goes on dd, I think it's better than most LFS as far as quality and service goes IMO, so I don't mind paying a few extra dollars to get it. But hey, there will always be two sides to an opinion, oh well :)

I think people should buy what ever fish they like to put in thier own tanks providing they can care for the fish and provide it thebest possible life that an hobbiest can provide and it should not make a diffrence if poster a,b,cx,y. or z thinks its prety or not and as far as pricng goes i think DD pricing is fair, i know in my situation it would cost me more for any fish local than i could get it from DD including the shipping cost in my 1 good lfs and one terrible lfs..or i could spend 6 hours round trip on the road and go to a coupleof good lfs and pay close to the same price as DD on just about any fish if the road trip lfs has one...so to me the pricing is not high for DD fish..heck a yellow tang in my town is 79.99 plus tax, a small hippo is 89.99 plus tax, a common large angel(in the 4" range would be 250+ ifthey had one as i have only seen 2 in 10 years at my lfs... its all boils down to what fish a person wants in thier tank and what they personaly feel they will pay for that particular fish not what joe smith on some cyber space posting thinks joe smith should pay for a certain fish and the specifics of joe smiths other options/lack of options to purchase the desired fish elsewhere...6 of 1 and 1/2 dozen of another its all the same in the end because the saltwater hobby is not the same as going to your local walmart and buying a fresh water fish

And I dont understand why anyone would pay the better part of two bills on a fish that looks like the ugly little sister to a $200 meridithi . . .

Because we can and because we want that particular fish. If you prefer the Meridithi, go for it.

Incidentally, the regal angelfish was sold before you could say Pygoplites :)

That was me that got it.:wavehand: I tried to keep one some months ago, never could get it to eat anything live, frozen, flake, pellets, nori....nothing. This regal I got from DD I put into a 40 gal breeder for qt. After releasing him into the qt tank, I went to get some frozen mysis and brine I had already thawed out the day before. This regal had been in the qt tank for literally less than three minutes and was eating all the mysis and brine shrimp I put in there. Yes, he cost more than one you can buy at other online etailers or from your lfs, but in this case I believe the extra cost was worth getting a healthy, eating regal. Same thing with the eight-lined butterfly I got from DD (Sustainable Aquatics) about 2 and half weeks ago, cost more than other places but worth it to me due to the fact the little booger eats frozen mysis and brine like a pig. I generally buy hardier fish from other places than DD because they are cheaper, but for real finicky fish, it's worth paying the extra $$$, at least to me. Probably can save more money in the long run, buy 2 or 3 regals that starve to death or buy one from DD that will eat and live.

Sooooooo.........If that's the case, are your prices comparable to DFSLA? Don't know if you are able to discuss that since you are also a sponsor on the site. I only ask because there are constant arguments over DD specimen prices. Some I feel appropriately reflect the care they put into the fish, it's rarity, beauty, etc.; others are questionable at times......

I brought them in for individuals who were ready to take the fish off my hands as I unloaded the shipments. I was not to quarantine, look after, feed, or do anything, other than hand the bag to the customer. Of course my prices were nowhere near that of DFS. That said, I think what they charge for all their services and time is more than reasonable. You will not find healthier fish! With them also being the biggest and most reputable company in the fish retail industry, they can charge whatever they want. I'm sure they have tens of thousands of people on their mailing list, there's gotta be someone looking for whatever they're selling. Being that big definitely demands top dollar.

DFS takes much more risk than handing off the bag so their prices SHOULD be more. For me, a conditioned fish is worth more.

A delicate fish that is hard to aclimate, but here someone has helped you along.. Yeah, I'd pay the extra cash myself..

You know the interesting part. I'm not even that worked up over if they can care for it. If they want to learn on what for me would be an exorbitantly expensive fish then have at it. I know that sounds harsh but who here didn't kill fish while learning? And who here is is the arbiter of the 'right' fish to learn on? That's the beauty of our free enterprise system, you have the scratch you get to decide what you do with it. I have a garage full of very expensive bicycles. They make my tank look cheap. But, its my dime, who gets to decide what I ride?Oh and it would be a garage full ferraris of I could afford them instead ;)

Is this in response to someone's specific post? Your post is just so completely random at this point in the thread....In regards to Personfiers and Meredithi, they are not really known as a difficult fish to keep. Someone with some experience on how to QT properly, the ability to provide a large enough tank for the fish to thrive long term, and the paper to buy the fish could likely care for these fish without much issue.

Seen as they seem to have quite a few of these I wouldn't be surprised to see them have to start discounting soon. No-one wants to be stuck with a $1000 fish in this trade. If they do pull down the prices I'd be pretty angry if I was the first purchaser.

The second "Deepwater" trigger is also still sitting. This one also has a cheaper similar fish hanging around their regular fish lists.

FWIW, I don't see the appeal in these fish, but some clearly do put a big premium on rarity. Their call I guess.

I feel the need to comment on this post. I don't care about the cost of the fish, but I DO CARE that people are bashing the true Personnifer Angel. Have any of you seen a True Personifer in full front mask? If you do, it will take your breath away. The vibrancy of the mask is so much more apparent on the true species rather than the Meredithi.

We had a full male blue masked Personifer in our LFS 800 gallon system years ago, he remained in the system for quite a while, and he was huge, and his mask was spectacular.

For those of you who cannot understand the difference in paying the extra money for the Personifer, I would first see in person the adult version of each fish before making such statements.

A Personifer is much better looking as an adult IMO.
