I'm looking for real feedback on True lumen pro series nano retrofit kits. I am getting a 16 gallon bow front in a few days, the 10 i have now will become the sump. I will be gutting the T8's and am going to install these into the hood. I need the hood (little kids and a cat), so a hanging setup from the wall or ceiling is not possible. The kit comes with the wiring, a 12k K white and a 453 nm Actinic blue. I was also going to get the 3-way splitter and another light. (not sure which one yet) What do you think?

Wouldn't do it. I have a true lumen pro strip as my general lighting for my sump. No way 3 of them would be any good at sustaining coral.

For a little nano look into a small heatsink kit from rapidLED or even one of the AI prime fixtures.

Anybody else? at least 3 different lfs say these are pretty good. I would like to believe them as they do not stock them. also 2 of the 3 use them in their personal tanks. Anybody have anything good to say about them?

I had a bunch of them. Not really any good for growing coral, but fine for fish. Mine are the 48" ones, about 3 years old, and have mostly failed with half of the LED's dimmer than the rest. I don't use them anymore so gave them away.

My true lumen worked fine for sunrise/sunset effect but I suspect, like the others, that it had little impact on coral growth. They generally use small 0.03 watt LED's which will light up a tank fine but do nothing for corals.

I recently swapped it out for a buildmyled super actinic strip that is awesome. 3 watt LED's, super bright, and very solid construction. You would be better off getting one buildmyled strip with the appropriate lenses for your tank. It would most likely be quite a bit cheaper than 3 of the true lumens. They take a bit to get to you, all fixtures are built to order and tested before shipping. I think mine was like 2 weeks between ordering and getting the package but totally worth it.
