Tunze DOC Skimmers

Technically the DOC is not really "in-line," but sits in the sump's in-flow chamber. Because of the sump's limited space, I was never able to put a skimmer there, so I did the HOB with Deltec and a remote setup with the Aqua C.

hey guys

hey guys

Mine is skimming, just not pulling out massive amounts of skimmate. I thought it was attributed to some problem, Roger pm'd me said I had my hydrofoamer installed wrong or some junk is clogging the venturi assembly but it appears fine. I am hoping on some other ideas. Melbounre your saying you run all the doc's with the screw out? Thats what I'm doing, why are you doing that on yours?

seems like we have the same issue.

well ....

well ....

It's working better then my coralife css 120 needwheel, so thats a plus. I am hoping roger will step in here with some info to help.

The screw is just barely in - I do that so I don't loose the screw if I took it out entirely. To be honest I haven't noticed a big difference at 2.5 turns as recommended or almost all the way out. I use the foam extractors so I can run fully open without concerns.

hmmm

Thanks for info Melbourne,

Mine is running completely out, but there is np per se, Its just not how it was intended. Just trying to figure out if something is amiss here, I rechecked the parts and nothing seems wrong.

The screw is still attached, but almost all the way out on mine. I don't use the riser tube for sump use, as the sump chamber it sits in has a constant level. The water level in my systems holds at about 3/8 of an inch under the little wave on the front.

This is with the screw completely out, again I am still trying to figure out whats wrong and why I have to have it all the way out, but its still skimming nicely.

Whoa! then there is deffinitely something wrong with mine.
i would need 2 weeks to get that! (on a 200gal tank)

duhno

I keep a lot of sps, and its barebottom. So that could be the reason, I run a lot of high flow, so no dettritus is allowed to fall to the bottom, instead it's suspended. I make sure its wet skimming, this way its all getting pulled out, I also run ozone 1hr per day. I am not sure the reason, but I currently don't have any nusiance algae either. I also dose vodka, 1 teaspoon daily(approx 10mil) I think don't quote me. I believe in overskimming, I think that most skimmers are not rated for the tank they say they are. I find its better to run a much more powerful skimmer on a smaller tank, hence the 9015 (rated for 300+gallons) on my 55g. Hope that makes sense.

Andrew for the DOC 9005 you should get the skimmer extension set. But maybe you should look into the 9010, the 9005 may be a little too small if your tank is heavily stocked. Plus the extension set will cost you around $46, if you add another $30 on top of that for the 9010 not only will you get a more powerful skimmer, but it already comes with the extension set.

For the skimmer extension set, maybe you cann find it at www.marinedepot.com

Thanks. One more questions, If I got the 9010, How high would my water level have to be in my sump? Also, would it fit in a standard 10 gallon tank?

According to the catalog the water level can be anywhere from 3.9 to 11" in height. The 9005 and 9010 are L4.9 x w4.4, quite small as you can see, so it all depends on the size of your tank/sump, well wherever you will place it.

Thas cool. What would the extension kit do and whats the main tank? Would I even need one for one in my 10 gallon sump?

I just bought a 9010 and the extension kit is cr@p! The bits that hold the extension cups are glued on, one showed up already "broken" off and another came off when I put the suction cup on. I love my Osmolator and I love the size and amount of bubbles I'm getting from the skimmer, but the attachement systems are dubious at best.

That being said, you should be able to use the rails to mount the 9005(if it comes with them) and be all set in a 10 gallon sump. Or are the rails too short?

The suction cups are only to serve as feet and should not be suctioned down. i can repair the plate for you. I have yet to see any problems with the install set besides improper assembly.
