I modded my 6025 over a week ago. It resulted in a noticable increase in flow. All seems fine with it.

I had a 6045 on reserve with the LFS, they said it was in and I told them I didn't need it at this point.

That is exactly what has happened. My pumps are completely silent now after simply waiting a few days.

I performed the mod weeks ago and have had no problems with starting properly. The increased flow is trmendous. I would not want more at this point. And, as always with Tunze products, Roger Vitko's customer service is superb.

I also modded mine a few weeks ago. No regrets here. The flow difference is night and day. Only once did the impeller spin backwards upon start up. I put my hand in front of the pump and it corrected itself. I had two stock 6025s on my 55 and was about to upgrade to the 6045s when I came across this thread. I'm not purplexed about the warranty as this has saved me 200 bucks.

I tried the MJ mod and it was too much flow (2000+gph).
Since it looks like this is working nicely, I will try this on my 2-6025s this weekend.

I have 2 un-modded in my 55 and i think they work nicely but, i am upgrading to a 90 and want some nice flow.

if you ask me the part cutout helped concentrate and direct flow
if needed, but id rather so scattered flow myself so im gonna try it .

Did anyone try to trim off the front nozzle to the point it is just enough to put the fish screen on? I am thinking by doing so we can get a wider flow pattern. That along with the increased flow after the mod, would make it even better.

Any downside of this you can think of?

The only thing I can think of is there is less room for the prop to come out during reverse flow, and if it hits the fish screen before it can correct the direction...Guess I will watch one closely in action to make sure there is still enough room after the cutback.

Other than that anyone don't believe the wider flow is worth the cut?

If you want wider flow... stop butchering your tunze nano and get a hydor koralia.

One thing youd have to think about it now your running these pumps with "less resistance" or less static pressure on the pump, this will cause the pump to spin faster past its original designed rpm range or pump curve, decreasing overal life expetancy.... cant you tell Im a engineer geek. Trust me tunze has great engineered products and that piece while not completely "neccesary" also was not designed to be removed. Anyway it is a great mod, just curious as to how long these pumps will last.

I have 2 6025's and mine almost always run backwards at startup until I impeed the inlet of flow and create pressure to get the prepeller to run in the right direction. I know they say it is self correcting within 20 seconds but I found that not to be the case, anone else have this isssue also?

I was not aware of these powerheads having this "reverse spin" problem.

If this problem is as widespread as it sounds, how would you use them with a wavemaker?

Do other pumps have this problem?

Mine just doesn't start quite often. I have to unplug it to check on frags in my frag rack and about 50% of the time I have to plug it in 2 or 3 times before it starts spinning.

I bought two 6025's and was thinking about using a wavemaker but given this habit it won't work.

Still, they are very good flow for the prop section of my system.
