tunze wavebox in action

How strong of water currents (gallens per hour) can you put in the tank before it effects the wave?

Thanks:Fzech

I don't know. It generally is not going to be beneficial to have any substantial current running against the wavebox.

Roger tell me how you would set up a new 180 gal tank 6 foot long 24 in wide 24 in high with a wavebox and it will allso have a sump?

Hey Roger, What do you mean by substantial current not beneficial against wavebox? I though Stream went well with the wavebox? Or what is substantial current?

P.S. Still no churps from my 7410 & 6100, thanks again.

The wavebox should be run on the multicontroller when possible. In a 180 for example I would use a wavebox and two 6100 ideally with the new 7095 multicontroller but it will work with the old one. Use Tide mode and the pump and wavebox on the same side work together, then after six hours they turn off and only the Stream on the other side runs. This allows the wavebox to suspend detritus and the Streams to sweep it away. A return pump going against the wavebox direction is not a problem but a Stream defeats the purpose and dampens the wave- you can do it there just is no point.

Honestly I have been too busy working on the next big thing and moving to our new office to ask recently about expected delivery date. It should not be an issue for clams. I will try to get an update later this week.

Thanks for your time, I just have one question...Is the wave box with a tunze stream a viable alternative for a closed loop?

Absolutely. I would say far more than viable- superior. You will have more flow with a fraction of the power consumption and it is much easier to use. The wavebox almost guarantess no deadspots.

Thanks may just do that instead of having like close to 20 holes drilled into the new tank im planning.......Im planning a 450 sps reef what would be the amount of streams controles and wave boxes i would need.......the tank will be 96 x 36 x 30 height....also what height should I have the corner over flows set at? sorry to bother you with questions.....I just want expert advice and for it to be done properly the 1st time.........

Hi Roger,

I got to see a Tunze Wavebox in the Champion Lighting booth at Macna. I ordered my Stream Magnet finally, and will probably get that in a month.

Got a question for you. Looking at the Wavebox, it looks like it is something that the Stream pump is inserted into. If that is the case, is it possible to purchase the box and controller to modify one of my Streams so I'd have a wavebox? ;) And if so, can I use my new Magnet to hold it in place? ;) ;)

Scuba Dog, you should use 2 6200 Streams. For the wavebox, expect a 1/2- 3/4" high wave, the overflow should be just the normal built in type overflows. Technically you should need two waveboxes. I would start with one and if you need the second to boost wave height you will need the dummy wavebox without controller as they have to share the controller.

RGibson, at any given time we have a dozen or more products in the works. Which ones will make it past the drawing board and become big is hard to say, we have lots of prototyes that never make it because they are too expensive, too hard to build or the volume just isn't their to make it profitable, we figure we have to sell at least 3000 of something to pay for the development in most cases. We never thought we would top the Stream and now we don't know how we can top the Wavebox but I figure we will. We have a lot of experiments going but they are filter systems and components, not flow devices, I think we have reached the practical limit of currently applicable technology to flow.

Marc, Did Champion demo the Wavebox? They never called me for instructions so I didn't know if they figured it out. At the time I was planning a trip to Germany so I opted out on going to MACNA. The magnet holder should be able to hold a wavebox. While it is not impossible, the wavebox pump is a hybrid between a 6200 and a 6100 and it requires a special controller. I don't believe any pumpless unit will be offered. Besides, you still need the Streams with the wavebox.

No, it wasn't actively running. They had it on the table with a pre-order pricetag. I just didn't realize it was using a Stream pump so it got me to thinking.... I have that second un-used Stream so I thought maybe I should just convert it a tad further and have one Wavebox, one Stream, and my returns. :D
