Tunze Wavebox Nano & 160 Gal

Hi there!

Tank: 160 Gal.
Measurements: 59"x23"x23"
Space between water surface and top edge of tank: 1.37"

Will I be able to use a Nano Wavebox without having the water splash all over my living room? Can I set the height of the wave?

My LFS has got the Wavebox Nano in stock, but information is scarce and they don't have any experience yet with this device.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Hello Stevenx2, 59x23x23 is not 160g unless you are using different measurement. Your tank is around 135 US gallon. I think the 6212 will work better on your tank. You will be fine with 1.37" clearance, plus you can always turn down the wave frequency....

Thanks for the info. I mistakenly included my actual sump volume in the conversion.
So I can change the wave height...
Difficult decision, because I don't want to have too much space taken away by the box. Would the nano be too weak? I'm trying to find something, that would convince me to take the big boss or the nano...

The nano wavebox may not work well in your tank. even though it is recommended for up to 150g. I suggest the 6212 because i don't want you to waste your money on the nano and ended up with the regular..

I have been using the Nano Wavebox for a couple weeks now and it is very impressive. Your tank is a bit longer than what I would normally suggest the Nano Wavebox for but it would work, up to a 4ft long tank it is really better than the wavebox. You can adjust the waveheight on the nano wavebox by adjusting the pump voltage on the power supply but I think a 1" wave is likely as big as you would get.

Damn, would do I do now...
Well lets ask another question :-)
Why does the nano outperform the normal wavebox?

I was tending to a normal wavebox, but now the nano is back in the game due to your post Roger... These decisions...

The nano will work better than the regular in smaller size tank 48" or less. I still suggest for regular wave box for your tank...

The nano wavebox is new so I only know that on a 48 by 24 by 24 120gallon I got the same size wave of a full size wavebox- about 1", on a 65gallon 36 by 18 by 24 I got also a wave of about 1", it is smaller, cheaper and works very well but I think when a tank is longer than 4ft the full size wavebox is generally better, 5ft tanks are very rare in the US so I haven't had the chance to test it. 5ft tanks kind of disappeared when 30" flourescent bulbs disappeared because it was difficult to get good even lighting for them, that is irrelevant now with T-5 and Metal halide but in the 80's it meant they quit making it. I would wait until there is more feedback to make a decision or if the store you go to in Austria has a display maybe you can borrow it and try it.

Thanks for the info guys!
Just one last question concerning the big Wavebox. Is a revision planned due to all the new stuff coming from Tunze?

The wavebox won't be changing anytime soon and the only future change will likely be the pump to a Stream 2 type pump but for the next year at least it will be made the same as it is now.

Hi there!

Well I finally managed to get some first hand info from Wavebox Nano users at the Coral Shop at Tunzes HQ today.
It is recommended and has been tested up to: 78" (without obstructions).
My tank, see above, is no problem at all.
I ordered it today and will let you know how it is :-)

@ Roger & Steve:
Thanks a bunch for your input!

Good luck with the new toy Steven.... 78" kinda iffy but if they already did the test on it, i guess it work. Make sure you consider the width of the tank as well...

Thanks! Sorry, forgot to mention that. The friendly chick on the phone said, as long as the tank is under 39" wide, no prob for a "classic" 59" tank :-) (unless of course you got 80% LR, but then nothing will help you...). They've been testing them and are extremely happy with them! Can't wait to get it!!!
BTW I also ordered a Stream 2 alias 6105. Hope they'll come at the end of the week. Think it's a great combination!

That is a perfect combo. You may need more later as your corals growth into a large colony... Please post some video when you have it up and running.

Oceanic Tech doesn't say much to me. Here in Europe we don't have huge brands making tanks.
I don't have my Nano Wavebox yet, all I have is the info provided above. I'll post more news as soon as my device is up and running! YEAHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
