turn off powerhead/closed loop flow at night?

Do you turn off your powerheads, closed loops, etc at night and/or for feedings? I was thinking of plugging my powerhead into my blue bulbs timer and my closed loop SCWD into my 10K's. Automatic is always better for me. Is this enough flow overnight? I am currently circulating about 1000 GPH through my sump and obviously would leave that running over night.

Thanks.

I never turn anything off, not at night, and not when feeding. To be honest, I really don't see the point. I don't think it mimics nature, since no one is turning off the tides and ocean currents, and healthy fish don't seem to have any trouble finding a place to rest. As for feeding...the pumps help distribute food all over the tank, and my fish have no problems chasing it down...that might depend on the type of fish I suppose.

The only thing I turn off is my skimmer when I feed DT's

The ocean doesnt stop moving when the sun goes down.. why should the flow in our tanks?

in fact.. if you're keeping any SPS, I would imagine that turning off the currents when the lights go out would be very bad for them as they really need the water flow for gas exchange.. if their zoox are photosynthesizing all day and then when they want to respirate at night to grow, they have much less water flow to get oxygen back from the water and thus must rely on their energy stores... meaning much slower or stunted growth..

but.. I could be way off.

I turn off the return pump to prevent the food from just ending up in the sump. I tried turning off everything and the fish just looked at me:) They didn't like it at all. R

I do not turn anything off either. I try to keep the tank envoronment as consistent as possible. I think there is a minimal "shock" effect to the fish when the "vibration/sound" from the mechanical equipment is turned off and on - just my opinion;)

I turn off my return pump when feeding sometimes just to keep the food in the display for longer...instead of in my filter socks. Never turn off my Dart CL.

I leave everything on 24/7 even when feeding. I agree with XSIVE as the ocean current are in constant motion and water flow is what brings animals food but more importanly removes waste.

How big is the sump? 1000 GPH seems to be abit high for a sump. Are you running a refuge?

I have a 55gal sump, 1/3 fuge, 1/3 intake, 1/3 return in center. the return line is split off so I can control the flow into the fuge. It is pumping up a 20 ft height from my basement but I think I ended up with more pump than I needed.
