Hey guys, I posted this on the Central Coast Reef Keepers Board but I thought I would post it here for you all as well. I've been using this water for about a year (never had any problems) so I'm kind of bummed.

yah, I saw the same post yesterday, SW not available any more at 4/5... sucks, has been doing great in my tank!
Got a call from Cynthia Lee today. She said they're going to be doing a construction project right where that spicket is. I guess that little shack it going to come down completely. She said there's another outlet somewhere that isn't "technically" open to the public. She didn't know where it was but said to ask around. Anyone here have any ides?

Construction is the reason I've been thinking, the tress have been chopped down, construction fence... etc, hopefully the other hose will open to public, anyone got further news.. please share, Thanks.

I do not concur.
I have seen a lot better results in my tanks using NSW from when I used ASW. Fish looked healthier and have brighter colors. Some that never had streamers for years in ASW started growing them after being put in a tank with NSW.
I placed fish with ICH in my NSW tank and it has disappered in a matter of days with no return and other fish not getting any Ich on them. I've also kept fish for years in a NSW tank that most people can't seem to keep alive for more than a few months. And I do nothing special for them.
During waterchanges, corals responded a lot better to NSW than ASW. I would match all parameters I could when using ASW and it would take my corals a day to recover and open back up. When i switched to NSW, even without matching anything, including tempature, my corals would recover and be opend up within a few hours.
This is just my experience of using UCSB NSW for about 10 years now, your mileage may vary.

i have never been there. i understand that the water is only available in the morning weekdays, and the pipe is small diameter so slow filling your containers.

i would be interested to know if anyone has a thriving sps tank using this water long term.
long Beach Aquarium has a great 5000 gallon reef tank with stony corals using Catalina Co. water.

Well not having SB NSW anymore sucks and cost a whole lot more money.
I finally broke down and made up some water this past weekend when I did a water change on my 30 G as I ran out of NSW. The cost of a bucket to make 160G of water cost more than the gas for me to go and get 300g of NSW. That dosen't include the cost of making the RO water.
Anyways, I made up some water to finish filling my tank. I did about a 20 G water change which is normal for me. I needed another 7 G to finish filling the tank. While I was making the water, I looked into my tank and everything looked good. Corals were open and fish were swimming.
Once I got my water made up to finish filling the tank, mixed up and stable, I let it circulate for several hours. When I finally poured the water in to top off the tank, same results as I had always seen when I used ASW. Corals were drawn in and fish were unhappy. It took til the next day before things were back to normal.
Now I have to make up about 200g to do a water change on the big tank. That's going to suck.
Anyone have any new info on when/where we will be able to get NSW from UCSB?

Well, I haven't "heard" anything but I just drove by yesterday on my way to class and it looked to be under pretty heavy construction. The little shack where we actually got the water from is still in tact and it actually didn't look like anything had changed with it, just EVERYTHING around it. I drive by here almost every day, so if I see anything, I'll let you all know. I hate buying water!
