Out here in FLO town a few buddys of mine do back yard boxing on Sundays. I havent had a chance to participate due to my eye.

I like the Ultimate Fighter show, but I am really disappointed by some of the people they have been letting on that show lately. Some of them really give MMA fighters a bad name.

That last video looked vicious.

The best Kimura I've ever seen: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j5Lsbs7JTaM

Pretty poor technique but worth watching anyway :)

I've rolled with some pretty good looking women in my day particularly when I used to train at SIU. You guys probably won't believe me but its all business, not one bad thought in my head the whole time. ;) Honestly, when I was new, I used to be so worried about getting tapped by a girl that I didn't think of anything else. I once got judo tossed about 4 feet in the air by this 85 lb Korean girl at SIU. I was stunned.

It is interesting when we get females in my Level I course, particularly when it comes time for the clinch drill. Now I personally have no problem punching a female as hard as I would a guy when it comes to this drill. They all volunteered for the course and the standards are the same. Yes, I have knocked out a girl. I don't take pleasure in it but she learned a valuable lesson that day.

Quick video of the clinch drill:

Basically a soldier must close the distance and gain one of three clinches without getting knocked out. They do this four times. The instructor "puncher" plays the role of the "universal fighter" and just swings for the fences like a guy in a bar fight. Its surprising how many soldiers actually have never been punched in the face. We do this drill to instill a willingness to close the distance with the enemy, train technique against a fully resisting opponent, and get soldiers over the fear of being hit before they go into combat

Spike gets to pick a set number of competitors for each show and they typically pick guys that they know will create drama in the house and make good TV. It all about ratings

I'll agree that there is a certain number of "drama" guys on the show, but there are also some really good fighters that just need that one chance to shine. I met Elliot from this current season on a plane from DC to Chicago, and that guy impressed the hell out of me! Nice as ever, we b.s. about all kinds of fight crap, and he is a math major! The way I see it, the stupid people are basically put on the show for the good ones to beat the hell out of! Also, Chuck is done with title shots, GSP will beat BJ, and Silva will probably finish out his career fighting Dan Henderson again.

I never heard of combatives schools when I was in. Is it just for infantry? Has it always been around?

Started with the Rangers around 95 but never really developed into an army wide program until about 2001. Its still fairly new and there are a lot of "oldtimers" that are against it. However, the Air Force is getting ready to pickup the program, so its spreading.

The Marine Corps has had there own combatives program for years called MCMAP (Marine Corps Martial Arts Program) before that I think it was called LINES training or something. Anyway, the Marines would never buy off on an Army Program even if it was light years better but I've heard from several Jarheads I know that MCMAP is starting to integrate a lot more of the techniques from Army Combatives.

Once I get some mats, I'll be teaching soldiers and sailors here in Farah.

Not going to let this most awesome topic fall to the bottom of the page. :)

What's everyones thoughts on a Fedor/Lesnar matchup?

I vote for "Fedor by submission but not in the first round." I wanted to vote for "Fedor by sub in the 1st" but I felt it necessary to give Lesnar a little credit considering his recent win. Fedor's submission game is one of the best on the world, and the perfect way to beat a wrestler inexperienced in MMA. Plus, he won't give up nearly as much weight as Randy.

I'm going with Nick. I think it will go 2 rounds but it will be Fedor by submission. Although I would love to see Lesnar catch one of those kicks in the side of the head and Fedor get a KO. I'm not sure Fedor can get his leg up that high...

I think this part of that article sums it up:

"How did Fedor fair against world class wrestlers?

Mark Coleman

Coleman used to be around 250lbs, only about 15 lbs smaller than Brock Lesnar. Mark was an NCAA wrestling champion just like Brock, except Mark was also a World Champion wrestler (not the fake kind), and an Olympian (both of which Lesnar is not ).

Mark was also ranked top three in MMA at the time of his first fight with Fedor, while Lesnar is unranked and was recently defeated by an unranked fighter.

Fedor made Coleman submit in a couple of minutesâ€"twice."

well, looking at fedors record you really have to think first round. We have yet to see how well brock would hold up against someone more his "size"

fedors experience level is far above that of brocks. Also have we seen how much of a chin lesnar has?????

First off, I can't help myself... PAGE 4 BABY!!!

Have you seen Lesnar's chin? Its the size of a horse shoe! He's taking some good shots but only time will tell I guess.
