unknown snail with tiny shell

I found a snail or slug? that has a tiny shell sort of like a pinky fingernail on its back, the snail is no bigger than a dime and is a light color. It appeared to be grazing on my rocks but there is not much there to eat besides coralline algae but i dont think it was eating. I couldn't tell it had a shell until i touched it. any ideas? sorry no pics I can't seem to find the bugger.

Sounds like a Stomatella spp. to me, please check the snail section of my hitch hiker pages for photos of it, and if it is that, they are harmless herbivores and are very variable in their coloration, hence their name.

thanks!! thats exactly what it is. I was a little worried when I first noticed them in the tank but that takes a load off my mind.
