Upgrade Build- Dowtish's 120 gal Oceanic Tech Tank DSPS

So I let my 2 part jug get too low and it did not dose any ALK for about 3-4 days. It dropped to 5.6dkh and is now back up to 8.2dkh. I have had some major swings like this on a couple of occasions lately and it seems like my SPS have become bullet proof. I probably shouldnt be typing this....they have not shown any signs of being unhappy from the swing.

counting my blessings.

Hi dowtfish
Just saw the pics..... simply amazing!
I really can't pic my favorite!:)
Corals and clowns looks great!

As for the swing i can share the same story.
A few months ago had an alk drop too.It went down to 5.
Brought it back to 8 in 3-4 days time and corals didn't show any negative reaction.

I think(maybe it's the dammest thought though:) ) the more time corals spend in a healthy(whatever this term includes) tank the more resilient they get.

Wish they will keep beeing healhty and amazing, like they are, ignoring the swing:beer:

Thanks so much for the compliments!

I have had overdoses of ALK in the past by accidentally turning on my dosing pump. It raised to 14dkh, but instead of freaking out and doing massive water changes, I just let it fall on its own and everything was fine.

But letting it fall and then bumping it back up is always a tricky business. I think your theory may have something to it. You provide the corals with some good stability and then they are able to handle these hiccups better than always being stressed and on the verge of decline with the slightest of swings.

Jinx! Watch out. hah hah.

I'm happy for you!

Well it's almost August, so I decided to go ahead and hook up the chiller today. I have it running off my manifold and was fairly painless to run it into the garage. Mostly due to my awesome wife for getting her small body behind the tank to grab the hose as I fed it through the wall.

Newb Tip for used chiller users: If you go to flush your chiller with vinegar water first, make sure you get most of it out before hooking it up. My ph went down to 6 instantly but then climbed right back up. Kinda freaked me out a bit at first. But all is well.

So Murphy came for a visit last week. I was out of town for work and the my return pump died....of course while im out of town. Luckily my wife works from home and I have some good local reefer friends and within 3 hours they had me up and running again.

I ordered the gen2 rlss DC 10000 and it arrived Friday. I hooked it up yesterday and hope this will last me a bit. I am currently looking into a way to splice into my Osmolator so wen the audible alarm goes off when the sump fills that it will email me through my APEX.

Hello and the tank looks great. I'm glad I stumbled on to this thread.

I have the green slime on the sand you had a few pages back. I have tried a few things but has come back every time. Can you elaborate on how you rid yourself of it.

Thanks in advance

I did a bit of research and had seen some folks reporting using Boyds chemi-clean with no ill affects. I had always heard it does work but us just a band aid to the real problem. Well....it's been at least 7 months now and it hasn't come back.

Dose accordingly. Take the collection cup off and just let it overflow. 48 hours later do a 20% water change and you're done.
