Used Vegetable Oil Containers for RO/DI and Salt H20 Storage

I'll be posting an introduction of myself in the newbie section shortly.

I searched for this and couldn't find consistent answers.

Can I use 55 gallon white #2 plastic containers to store RO/DI water and mixed salt water that have been previously used to store clean vegetable oil? If others have done this, what method (if any) did you use to remove residual oil?

Thanks,

Sims

Have not done it myself but it should be safe. I usually don't advocate soap, but you'll probably want to use a mild detergent like dishwashing soap to clean the residual oil out. Alcohol might work too if you have enough of it.

Just make dam sure to rinse out all the soap. When you think you've got it clean, rinse it again five or six more times.

Thanks Disc. I have a few weeks before I actually use them, so I'll wash them and start rinsing a few times per week. They were virtually free and I like how they are translucent and already have gallon markers on them.
