Used Vortech or 2 jabeos?

I've had several mp's and a few wp's.
I just ordered another wp.
I love yhem.
If you look for failures youll find them in vortecs and jebaos.i dont like used mp40s becuase between wetsides and dryside bearings you dont know when they are gonna crap out. If you buy new, then vortec.
Used,id go with new jebaos.
My wp40 is quieter than my mp40.
For $75 for a wetside you could buy another new jebao, and the impellers for jebaos are like $8

I have both. Personally I do not like my vortech, the back of my tank is painted black and its not easy to align, I also find once in a while I need to realign. Rw series is practically silent. It looks like its good quality but time will tell. Personally I would go with the rw based on the cost difference

Or wair for the gyro!! Ill be giving it a try the moment it comes out

Btw I really dont buy the 9/10 jaboes stop working the first year
The 2 people I know that got me into jaboes have been running them for over 2 years (9 pumps in total) and not one has failed, I guess it could just be good luck... time will tell

Oh and dont get me wrong, I do like ecotech and they do make a good product, they also back it up 100% unlike jaboe

Quality wise ecotech is superior...but it also cost 4-5 times more.

Jebao's, had them for 2 years now?

How have you had them for two years, or over two years? Do you have any kind of receipt showing that you bought them prior to October of 2012?

I would say go with the vortech. That way if you decide to go with another or radion lighting or something, they will all be compatible.

This made me question mine as well, so I had to do some research and I've only had mine for going on 14 months now. It's amazing how easily your mind can distort time!

Ha, sorry, it was April of 2013, so around what? 1.5 years? The last year has put it's toll on me I guess :)

Pretty good record for a el-cheapo Chinese product though that turns on and off every second.

I personally have thought about the vortechs, but they're so grossly overpriced. Everything they can do is possible via other methods. And there's no chance of a wet/dry side going bad to make the pump act up and get loud with the jebao.

Just google 'mp40 loud', it's pretty disgusting for a 400$+ product. The design needs to be redone before they get my money.

I wouldn't consider the Jebao as having a good record, way too many failures in far too short of time.

Comparing it to a Vortech is silly, apples and oranges. I never really understand why people do that? Maybe because they will look silly comparing to a Tunze? Compare it to a Tunze, which is what the Jebao was copied from. When you do that, the Jebao looks like what it is, a cheap knock off product. There are many of us with Tunzes over 10 years old, and some with over 15 year old Tunzes. I highly doubt any Jebao will make it to the three year mark. Junk is junk, hype is hype. Quality stands the test of time and bottom tier Chinese knockoffs never stand the test of time. You can buy better quality Chinese products, but they do not have Jebao written on them.

If people are happy with low priced, low quality items that fail in a short time or have to constantly clean them to keep them going, then maybe their priorities are off. Spending a little more to get something that lasts is always a better use of money.

We are talking jebao and vortec not tunze.
Id like to see a vortec go 10 years.
Just do a search for vortech or jebao problems and youll find plenty on either.
Stick to what the thread is about, new jabeo or USED vortech

Better? How about this, I would not buy either, I would buy a used Tunze, it should outlive both of them.

OP
One MP40 on a 75 seems a bit light on flow to me. I'd highly recommend it over the jebao after owning both myself. Do be careful though, I have had some mp40s that are a racket and belong in the garbage in my opinion. Currently running two mp40s on my 58 display and tunze on my 40 breeder frag.
One more thing, I have had an mp40 run for 3 years straight on 100% reefcrest with no maintenance besides maybe a vinegar bath on the wetside once a year and its still dead silent

That's quite an aspiration for ANY piece of reef equipment - Chinese or not Chinese. Heck, vast majority of reefers themselves don't go 10 years. I think that 'buy cheap, buy twice (maybe thrice)' is a true for most of this stuff. Only stuff I've had that stood the test of time was an Iwaki pump (19 years), most of my MTC equipment (12 - 15 years) and a dosing pump that I always forget the name of (the yellow one; 10 years). Beyond that, crapola .....

Oh please. You have zero experience with Jebao, yet you are constantly talking about how they fail.

Fact is, I've had more issues with my two Vortechs than 6 of my Jebaos. Please just stop adding to a topic in which you have no first hand with the products. It make no sense.

So you are saying the numerous people who had failures of the Jebaos were wrong and their pumps did not fail? Or are you saying that because you haven't had problems yet, that there are no problems?

I'd say just as many documented issues with the vortechs, but those seem to go overlooked interestingly enough. Of the two brands I've only had issues with the vortechs, replaced the wet side within a year. But I guess since its a "premium brand" that's ok. Tbh I'd rather own tunzes as I know its going to last forever, just can't afford them atm so what's a guy to do! To the original OP if you buy the rw's you will not be disappointed, one mp 40 I assure you, you will be disappointed. You won't have the flow you want with one. Buy them through reefbreeders and take advantage of very good customer service if by some chance you do have an issue.

Are ya trying to sell something here Sirreal? Or are you just offended that others are 'giving your purchase choices a negative review'?

I understand correcting people if they're wrong (like you did with me and the 2 year mistake, it is valid, I replied and set that straight) but I see you're coming back over and over in the thread to tell people they're wrong?

I understand you might have had a good experience with vortechs, and perhaps you've seen some people have bad experiences with jebao, but you don't speak for everyone and every situation.

The truth of it?
Someone can try a jebao for 50-100$ versus an entire months rent for people to try a vortech.
