Vertex Skimmer club

I want to know how the aquaeuro skimmers compare to this, they look a lot like the octopus but they are made with acrylic which is of course a plus. and they are cheaper!

My 180 is sitting in approx the same depth in a 20 gal sump!

Question, does anyone here want to sell there collection cup

order one from marine depot or premium aquatics they don't cost much

trying to find thread but i read somewhere one guy was pulling 32scfh stock no upgrades or mods with his 180 first generations.

Thanks french, I called around a while back and all the suppliers made it sound difficult to get just the cup. Would you recommend MD or PA?

Anyone have the IN-80? Just instaled mine on friday and it's kickin a** allready here's what i got in three days. What a smell

yeah french.. that was me. in180 no mods pulling 30-31. at least by my dwyer. i would deffinately say i have a "real skimmer" too. been flawless foe a few months now. keep in mind i had an octo extreme 200 and i sold that junk as soon as i could. that sicce pump was the loudest most inconsistant pump ive ever owned. and i used the pinwheel so no it was not unevenly meshed. but last i checked this was the vertex skimmer club. not the i have an octo and i want to bash the vertex skimmer club. no offense but tang you dont even own a vertex but you dis them more than anyone that has had an "issue" with their skimmer. all have been fixed too by the way. the majority out weigh the select group of individuals that have gotten a defective pump. i have owned quite a few skimmers ( not as many as mojo) and this is deffinately my favorite skimmer so far. for once i amnot looking forward to he day i can get my new skimmer.

It is doing much better than the OCTO NW 200 recirc I had before. I'm pretty sure that right now the OCTO/MSX line is the best bang for the buck. I had mine meshed @ 45-50scfh and it was too much for my 75. I have the SWC PW in and it is pulling 25ish scfh and skimming great. There is a new PW for the ATB pumps thats works in a sicce and is doing 33 scfh. I will post some pics here once it arrives, so we can compare and contrast.
I think this "Skimmer Battle" will be beneficial to brand owners.

Good luck Vertex :uzi: :uzi: :furious: :uzi: :uzi:

This will also come in a custom oversized volute, so if you don't have the oversized volute, the pinwheel will do you no good.

I hear ya, but I haven't heard anything about an oversized volute. My friend Charlie Davidson was the first to get the Purple PooPoo Eater, and he has been getting good numbers with out the larger volute. I know numbers don't mean anything, but I ordered one anyway.
French, do you have any info on these larger volutes?
Will the volutes work on a sicce, or just the ATB?

Vertex Gen-2 IN-180

One thing I noticed last night when I checked on the 180 in my sump. The foam level was down in the tube so I fut my finger over the air hole on top of the adjustment tube by accident. The level shot up quickely to the top. When it did I took my finger off the hole. The level seemed to stay right there. Weird! Anyone know why that would happen?

The mini airstar has the larger volute. I'm sure that you may be able to run the purple pinwheel in your sicce, but the larger volute is what makes the difference for the ATB skimmers. With your stock volute, you may be still be able to run the pinwheel and get some additional performance but aren't you already doing fine with an Octo Xtreme 200 on only a 75 gallon tank??? I would think you would do just fine with the stock pinwheel on a tank that small and such an oversized skimmer.....

Has anyone tried a gate valve modification on their Vertex?? If so where did you find the metric valve? Wondering if the valve might make dialing them in a bit easier.

Mark

I have not heard of anyone with a gate valve mod, but I really don't think its necessary on these skimmers. The necks are very long, and allow for easy adjustment of the skimmate consistancy. I stop and start mine every time I feed, and it has been spot on every time it restarts too.

A couple of guesses here.... when you put your finger over the silencer, you use the pump to suck all of the air out of the water level adjustment pipe. As you suck the air out of the pipe the water level in the skimmer will rise. You are also causing the pump to lose its cavitation with air, and cause it to pump more water which would also cause your skimmer to fill faster.

Maybe you had an obstruction in one of the air intake parts... The silencer cap, the threded 90 on the silencer, the pump venturi. Did you ever check that the pump outlet did not have packing styro in it. I was wondering if the small directional valve inside the pump outlet on your skimmer got stuck in one direction, and if your pump started in the oposite direction, you would lose alot of performance from the pump..... maybe something to look at.

Hey all! Just order a Gen 2 IN 100 for my drilled 55g/20g sump set up. I hope these things are as good as most everyone says they are. Will post picks when it arrives from PA.

sure don't i've been considering the new vertex cone skimmer by proline haven't looked into atb skimmers or octo skimmers anymore really like vertex and euroreef skimmer designs with long necks and smooth transitions.

Next skimmer will be either vertex cone or warner marine cone.
