Anybody have this problem?

Anybody have this problem?

I have an IN-250 Rev A skimmer and had the impeller problem that many people had. I got a new impeller from PA and the unit worked great for a couple of months.

This morning, I heard a strange noise from my tank. Kind of a grinding or vibrating sound. I isolated it to the skimmer pump.

So I pulled it out and thoroughly cleaned it with a vinegar solution. Put it all back together and still have the noise. It still pumps and the skimmer is working, but it is very loud and I am concerned that it will fail.

Any ideas? I have already contacted PA, no answer yet.

Thanks, John

I had the same problem with a IN-100 pump. I sent it back!

I am working with PA to get another impeller. turns out that the one I got is most likely also bad. John

Ihope to GOD this wasn't a mistake buying these skimmers!!!!

I don't think it was a mistake.

The skimmer is AWSOME. It pulls some major crap out of my 125!

I got one of the impellers from the first batch of replacement ones. Turns out that the pump mfg (resun) just polished the old shaft and shipped them.

The second batch of impellers have a new size shaft that is supposed to be much better. If you got a new pump recently, you should have a good impeller.

no mistake here love mine, remember its a new line haven't been around but maybe 6 months there gettin the bugs out and fixing them. premium aquatics and other stores have shown excellent customer service fixing problems.

Hey guys just wondering if you can help me out.

I recently bought the IN 100. i have it stting in 8 in of water and have the output half way in tje water. Now even when i have the riser tube at close, the bubbles do not foam all the way to the top. Any recommendations on what to do? Thanks

sounds like not pulling enough water, i would inspect pump and make sure there is nothing blocking inlet and maybe even check impellar and make sure its not messed up.

make sure the top part of he output riser is all the way inserted into the "T". if its not all the way in no matter how much you close it it wont completely close.

thanks!
8" is doable..i have 9" in the sump and i can raise the skimmer an eatra 1" and be able to take off the cup...i have 22 1/2" total height in the stand

yup
the in100 is 20" tall so that gives you 1.5" to work with. pretty tight fit but doable. good luck

Question for people with non defective pumps. Are these Resun pumps suppose to be silent if running without air going into it ??? I am not sure if mine is defective or not but it seems a bit loud.

never ran mine without air but it shouldnt be too loud. definately no grinding sounds. i cant hear mine at all except for the air intake

Well my IN-100 v1 pump died over the weekend. I've had this running with the new version impeller for about a month. I don't know if this is the one with the polished shaft or the one with the new size shaft. Tried to do a vinegar bath just to see if it needs cleaning. I don't see why it needs it because my tank has only been running for 2 months and this skimmer has only been runing for a month. Tried blowing in the airline and also tried to get the impeller to spin up using a stick and still nothing. I'm waiting to see what Premium Aquatics would say. I'll keep you guys posted.

Ok i feel stupid lol. I guess i neverinserted the riser tube all the way. I think its because it was a little hard to push in and i was scared to break it and therefore assumed it would work just sitting on top lol im an idiot

dont feel stupid tripinpn01. easy mistake. i figured that would be the prob. no matter how little water is being pumped through if the output is indeed closed then water will have nowhere else to go except to overflow the collection cup. well glad to see it going good now.

My IN 250 (30" tall) is in a deep sump, approximately 11 inches. It works great. Lots of air. Lots of steady skim mate. Very good skimmer. For those with deeper sumps, this could be a good candidate.

I've also tried different pumps on this body. The askoll 1500 was to much pump. The body couldn't handle all the air. Too much turbulence and large marble size bubbles. Not recomended. The askoll needs at least a 5" inch or larger neck.

Tried the sicce 2500 mesh modded with three layers of mesh. It worked well with this body. Might work slightly better with the IN 180. A little less turbulence in the body and neck. Smaller bubbles. Pulled just a tad less air than the Resun. It was a decent fit for the body. Used less wattage.

The stock pump works really well with this size body. A really good match. For such an affordable skimmer, it skims so well. I'm back to the stock Resun for now. It seems to skim the best with it.
