Vertex Skimmer club

I am glad you like the in 100. IT is always nice to know I was able to help someone make a great choice. I am hoping to take the in 180 to the next level for those who might like to tinker a little bit.

I got one yes I have videos and pics to upload too. Well the vertex is more of a project. So it wont be running on the tank everyday. everyone has to have more than one skimmer right? lol jk. But yes I have the MiniS to finish up reviewing , the K2 to play with and a warner marine s150 that has become my best little bud. it is just so simple and it works so well.

Would a Vertex in 80 be good for a 55 gallon mixed reef with a 20 gallon sump? Total water volume is about 60 gallons. It would be replacing a seaclone 100.

I want the Vertex in 80 because it is on sale for $130!

I think you could get by, but the 100 would be a much better candidate. I'm running a 100 on my 55g (using about 15g of water volume in sump) and I think it's a great fit. I've never had a seaclone, but I wouldn't be surprised if the IN80 out skimmed that.

Btw, Who has them on sale?

marinedepot. I don't want to buy something that's a waste but it's at a fairly cheap price. if the in 100 was on sale I would definetly get that

They just had all vertex on sale for $50 off with a coupon code, but unfortunately that ended on the 1st of this month. I guess they still have that deal on the IN80's.

I don't think the IN80 would be a waste, I can imagine it being an improvement over your current skimmer. But, if you're willing to spend $70 more you'll definitely get better skim and the ability to pack your tank!

the in 80 is not a waste at all. Its a good skimmer for the price. The 100 is a tad larger and is just a better balanced product for what you have. IMO I would spend the extra $70 and get the 100. But the in 80 is a huge step up from the seaclown. SAve a couple bucks extra and get the in 100. You will be much happier long term.

Man I love my IN100, but I have upgraded tanks and It wont handle what I plan for the new tank! Im going to miss this skimmer!!! I went with a DAS EX3. If someoine is looking for a used IN 100 Shoot me a PM!

Just wanted to chime in and say I joined the club. I am very happy with this skimmer. It is the Gen-2 In-100. I decided to upgrade to this skimmer as I am battling some hair algae. The previous skimmer I had just could not keep up. It's been installed for about two weeks now. And everything has went well so far.

did I mention I got my in 180 ! I am still running the miniS for another week then I will start checking it out.

lol I am on my duaghters laptop my lcd is out on mine for a couple days until I get a new one in. Its on its way. I am making a venturi tonight I hope. MAybe a couple with different sizes to see how it has an effect on performance. I will probably mesh it out but dont want that to be teh first thing I do. I am still running the miniS this week. And its actually doing a pretty good job. So it will be neat to see how the vertex in 180 does after running the miniS.

The in 180 is not small... Its nota huge monster but it is muchbigger than the in100. So make sure you have room for it when you place your order.

out of the box The skimmer is pulling 32-34 scfh. I am actually really impressed that it pulls that good. I was expecting about 24 to 28. So I am not sure how much more I would want this to pull. I think 40 scfh is not out of the question with some simple mods. I ll have to see how many watts its pulling. I will do more when I finish up miniS

180 is nice skimmer i'm still using my gen I model on a 125 gallon and pull out a 2 liter a week of gunk.

Dang French, you must have some nasty water. What are putting in that tank?

lol 2 ltr is alot. I run a 90 bare bottom tank with lot of flow. well a vortech cranked up and a tunze 6045. so the tank stays pretty clean and i use a filter sock on the drain as well. I have 100 and 200 micron socks I use.

I am going to mesh it out I think just for the fun of it. See if it makes a difference. Ill let you all know.

Is the 100 enough skim power for my 75 gal mixed reef (total system volume is about 75 gal). Oh, and do they run quiet? I have had a Coralife 125 since the beginning without issues...except it runs loud. But then again, I have nothing to compare it to...noise levels/skim levels. Is the Vertex an upgrade?

I just recently bought an Ehiem to replace my return pump (a RIO Hyperflow). Soooo glad I did. Runs extremely quiet...unlike the RIO.

Yes get the gen 2 in 100 and you will be pretty happy with it I am sure. I have had many skimmers and you dont have to spend a fortune to have a good skimmer. Run it in 7 inches of water though.
