Very Happy Day

I finally caught my mantis after about 7 weeks. My ten year old son was so happy he felt like he won the lottery. This came at just the right time we are leaving for the airport to pick up our second shipment of 100 pounds of rock and critters from TBS.

I really did not want to have him in there with all the critters and more rock.

I will post pictures later

I almost took home a little mantis today from TBS. I bought 8.5lbs in 5-6 little pieces and some rubble and the little mantis jumped out of his rock while they were weighing it up

Good luck with your second shipment :)

I had two MS shrimp in my second TBS shipment. Finally caught one last night after a month of headaches. If I could do it over I would have inspected my rocks more thouroughly before putting them all in. All my barnacles are already ruined. Good luck.

The second shipment looks great. I did not find any mantis in it but I did find a few gorillas. I hope I did not miss any. I do still hear clicking but I am hoping and praying that it is just a porcelain crab. All of my barnacles were destroyed also. I will post my pictures tomorrow.

I have a couple gorillas too. I hope to take them out soon. One is very large and agressive. I have quite a few porcelain crabs, large and small, but they have never made any noise...

Finally a few pictures

Finally a few pictures

Here is apicture. He has now been living in a bucket for almost two weeks. They are very hardy

BTW. How did you catch him?? Trap? Evacuate rock??

Thanks

Jeff

We took out all of the rock and he was just standing in the middle of the tank. So we netted him. I now have two new ones that came in my second shipment. I am not looking forward to catching them since I am not about to take all the rock out now. They must be great hiders. I looked closely at each rock and let them sit out for about 20 minutes. I have a trap that I am going to try. The X Terminator. The bottle trap never worked for my mantis but I did catch two gorrillas with that type of trap.

What are you going to do with him/potentially 'them'?

What are you going to do with him/potentially 'them'?

Im in Chicago and was wondering what you planned on doing with the N.Wennerae(that is the species of mantis you have in the bucket right now), and potentially the ones you catch out of you new tbs. I may be interested in adopting/purchesing them from you.
Cheers, Brian

The way I finally got rid of mine was evacuation. We'd watch the rocks until we found the beasts lair then pull out the rock and douse it with club soda.

Cruel, but effective.

Jeff
