Vic's 100gal Starphire From Philippines

NIIIIIIIIIICEEEEEEE looking tank.

Question about the lights. What kind of PAR are you getting from the LED's?
Did you add the T5's yourself or did it come as a complete fixture?
Do you have 2-mp40's in the tank for flow?

Reason i ask is because its almost upgrade time! owow :)

Keep up the good work, it looks great!

David

thanks for the compliment :) as for your questions,

1. I dont know what PAR I have from the LEDs lol sorry.

2. I added the T5s myself as the LED fixture is by itself, I just made a lightbox/holder that would hold the LEDs + 4 T5s

3. Yep, I hae 2 MP40ES for the tank running at 80%

salamat din bro :) we'll i hope i would be able to upload frequent updates. its summer time again here in the PH and that means Ill be out of the country a lot and on long intervals ... i just hope my corals survive in our maid's care.

i wish this was my tank lollll

thanks buddy. ya this LED fixture is mostly used by Aussies and Euro guys. Ive seen only 1 guy from the US who uses this fixture. I get my corals myself from the ocean. We've got a nice reef here that I try to take care along with some fellow divers in our area. :)

Can you upload pictures of your plumbing at the back of the tank? Are you still using 1.5" drains and 3/4" returns? How many drains? What is the size of yoru overflow?
You mentioned running a herbie system but based on your overflow I don't understnd how. Do you have a drawing of the hole placement.

I like the idea of yoru overflow being similiar to Glass-holes.com but not 4 sided. Is it all acrylic? or is it glass with an black acrylic cover?

What is the noise level of the overflow like? Glass-holes.com uses an silencer plate in theirs to lessen the noise, do you have a problem?

Love how you built a section to hide your plumbing.

i did a rendering of my tank today. sort of a preview of whats coming :)

rimless.jpg

halfcanopy.jpg

the second render shows some sort of a canopy where i could maybe hide 2-3 T5s for more coloration. thinking of using 1 ATI blue + and 1 KZ fiji purple with icecap reflectors.

hope you enjoyed! :)

I don't really understand what you mean by this.
In Taiwan we have different size bulkheads and piping, as 1"=3cm here not 2.5cm so that US bulkheads can't be used with out piping. Is that what you mean? were you some how able to convert sch40 bulkheads and sch80 gate valve to local piping sizes?

scoots, its good that you noticed. im honestly not comfortable with my sch40 bulkheads :( i havent drilled anything yet so im still considering getting those sch80 bulkheads.

EDIT: i remember why i went for the sch40 bulkheads. its because of the threads. US threads dont work with local threads :(

Hi, im new here in reefcentral but i'd been in saltwater club here in Ontario, Canada. It is very nice knowing all my fellow "kababayan pinoys" are a part of member in this organization club. Anyway i been in hobby for the last 8 yrs in half, I'd started as a cichlid tank which is freshwater when i was in Austria Vienna. I'd been reading all this thread about in phillippines amazing tank that you have i was really amazed all your set up. I went vissited in pinas 3 yrs ago with my wife & step daugther , actually we went in puerto gallera it was really beautyfull in that island. I'd stayed there for 5 days & we went for snorkling in coral sea in gallera i was so suprice really what i saw in our ocean those corals are really beautifull, & we're hoping by next yr we could visit in palawan. Im currently in processesing to move back in europe this comming week, my tank its been shut down a few months ago which is only 45 gallon sps set up tank. I couldn't keep a bigger tank at this moment because of on going planning to move in Austria again & hopefully by next yr I can start back again my new tank, for now just been off for the hobby=( its kinda sad though i miss my tank.

hi ed, if youre going to checkout the beaches then the most beautiful ones here in PH are the ones in Palawan. head to el nido or miniloc. if you have more time and do dive, i strongly suggest visiting tubattaha reefs.

as for my tank, im located up north of manila. about 5-6hrs drive :) oh and im not home next month till may, im on a month-long europe vacation.

Would love to see the tank, Im shocked you added coral 5 mo. after launch.

you're most welcome to visit. im 5-6hrs north of manila. just pm me when you're in the area :) why are you shocked that i added 5 mo. after launch/start? i actually added corals about 1.5months after puting in the first drop of water :) the delay was because i didnt have time to go diving and get my livestocks, altho i couldve added my first LS 14 days after i started.

btw, where in tampa are you? would love to check out your tank too maybe in the next couple of months. ive got some relatives in st pete and seminole -- just a few minutes drive to tampa :)

how's the price of coral's & fish in manila was it a bit cheaper?

local corals and fishes are cheap. an adult masudai hogfish is just 300pesos which is around $8.

where about in europe your going mrvic? Im leaving this coming monday going to Austria Vienna, & I hope you enjoy your vacation in europe very romantic place. those corals in your tank didn't you just say you went for diving to get all those corals? very nice and where about did you collected all your corals in phillipines. I know in puerto gallera & batangas anilaw they say we have a very nice coral reef garden in that area. man you must be really lucky your closes into the ocean & us here we're always waiting for a new shipment at store its like whoever gets there early you've got chance to buy those corals & fish that hasn't been always there or rarely you couldn't see & ofcourse the price is always the big problem hehehehe anyway goodluck on your trip to europe "ingat"

hey buddy, we'll be across europe, from london to budapest lol travelling with relatives. thanks for the well wish :)

about the corals, yes I do get them myself but I do pick and get only small colonies about the size of my fist. i know its tempting to get the big ones especially those that are hosting fishes but i do control myself lol ... on the other hand, i do return corals back to the sea. those that i end up not liking i return them back. we have a secluded beach about 5-10 minutes from my house where i put frags back every once in a while. hopefully someday, i could get a permit from the authorities here to cordon off the secluded beach and make it a sanctuary for fishes and corals to be propagated in the area -- well thats my dream and contribution back to mother earth ... maybe, someday :)

Not sure if you are missing my questions above or not interested in answering. So this will be the last time I ask. Would you be able to look at the posts and answer my question if you have time, if not sorry for bothering you.

oh shoot sorry, it was in page 6 so i mightve overlooked it. ill answer as detailed as i can below.

>> Can you upload pictures of your plumbing at the back of the tank?
cant upload atm sorry, im very busy with work and stuffs that i need to finish before i go on vacation.

>>Are you still using 1.5" drains and 3/4" returns? How many drains? What is the size of yoru overflow?
yes, 3 drains ; 1 full + 1 emergency + 1 more (forgot what its called lol)

>>You mentioned running a herbie system but based on your overflow I don't understnd how. Do you have a drawing of the hole placement.
i never mentioned nor do i know the herbie system. im using beananimal's overflow.

>>I like the idea of yoru overflow being similiar to Glass-holes.com but not 4-sided. Is it all acrylic? or is it glass with an black acrylic cover?
its all glass but i managed to attach the acrylic "teeth"

>>What is the noise level of the overflow like? Glass-holes.com uses an silencer plate in theirs to lessen the noise, do you have a problem?
no silencers for beananimal's ... but hell, theres absolute no sound of water rushing down to the sump. its 100001% quiet :)

as for the pipings and fittings, i never used any threads. i used slip fittings allover. also, my pipes are all sch80.
