Virtual tank tour anyone?

I really like how it looks also but I'm getting some hate for it on nr. as for the stand it looks better in pics than real life (haha it should be the other way around) I'm going to finish putting the tank together and when its all done if i don't like the arch i might have to change it but so far I'm happy with it.

If the negative comments are from nr, it's only nano-hate, so I wouldn't be too concerned. The haters are just envious :)

Looks great. Nice job.

Thanks bro so far I'm loving it. Haha nano-hate :inlove:

Plan for today: get the overflow trimmed at johns house and silicone it to the back of the tank.
Plan for tomorrow: watch the silicone dry :)

Coast-to-coast overflow cut to size (thanks again John cut looks awesome) and siliconed in place. Leak test probably tomorrow when it dries better.

Looks good, Luis.

How snug is the fit? I just read a thread on RC where the poster's glass sumps were cracking because, supposedly, the acrylic baffles were expanding. Apparently acrylic can absorb water and swell!

There's around a 1/4" on each side of the overflow just in case that happens i just hope it does not fall of but it seems pretty strong.

That seems like a nice large gap. I have no idea how much acrylic expands, but I couldn't imagine it's more than 1/2".

When does it get wet?

Yeah, i don't think it will expand that much also. I put about a gallon of RO water in the overflow to check for leaks before i got called by an old family friend to go help him at his apple orchard but it all seemed to be doing good before i left. Maybe today when i get home I'll test the tank also and the overflow all the way up.

Time for the thread police to step in! :)

Luis, you really need to start a build thread for this bad boy. It'll get lost here in the VTT.

Its getting exciting Luis.

You're not kidding about that Grant i'm biting my nails now. I just got the acrylic sheet from home depot so i will try to cut the baffles for the sump. Also just throwing this out there but does anyone have an idea what size pump i should use for the return? Also if someone out there has one for sale that will work how much do you want for it? I'm desperate to get this wet.

I think they say your looking for 5-8 times total volume turnover per hour, so 200-350 gallon per hr pump would be about right. Any one correct me if i'm wrong but if I remember correctly, that was the approximate sizing.

You're right on the sizing Jeff about 5 times or so thru the sump. Luis an inexpensive Rio would do it and upgrade to an Eheim when you can afford it later.

Guess we all have an old rio pump laying around. if i am just running the tank through the cycle do i really need to have the sump running? I was thinking of just filling up the tank under the overflow teeth and running it that way until i get my protein skimmer and also a better pump. Then i can run the sump and skimmer when i have everything.

I don't see why not, but I wouldn't do it for more than a month though. When you connect your sump it will be almost like a mini water change.
