Vu's (keepLearning) aquarium (Pics)

Vu was nice enough to drive ~15 miles to get me a small tank that I really wanted to use as an ATO that would fit perfectly in my stand. I couldn't drive out to that persons house to get it and Vu was nice enough to offer. I know I've said in the past, but this community is a great one and I am glad to be part of it.

Whilst at his house, I thought I'd take advantage of the trip and get some shots of his tank. The thing is absolutely beautiful! If I remember correctly, it is a 75g tank and he has it very well maintained.

Without further ado, here are the pics:
(as always, remember that I suck at identifying corals, so if you know the names, let me know and I will name them ;))

Nice pics.
Thank you.

Vu is an awesome guy so freaking helpful
Very helpful indeed. Glad I got a chance to meet him.

Great photos.

Nice tank Vu.
Thank you and the tank is very nice.

you got skills in macro photography.
Vu- Nice collections you have.
Thank you.

awesome shots on an awesome tank!!!
Thank you.

Beautiful shot. Which macro?
Thank you. I used a Tamron 90 2.8 which is my go to macro. I took some extension tubes but didn't really need them. Everything was very easy to photograph and his glass was super super clean which made this super easy haha.

I've put this out there before, if anyone wants me to photograph their tank, just let me know. I enjoy meeting new people and refining my photography skills in this setting. It is one I feel I struggle with. Of course, please consider that I live in the San Fernando Valley and will probably not travel out to San Francisco for a photo shoot lol.

Thanks Ricardo. Beautiful shots. I planned to learn from you how use my Canon when you stopped by but I am exactly where I was before meeting you LoL. Next time. :)

 That was my bad. I tried to sprinkle some tips here and there but since my time was limited I didn't do as much as I would have liked to.

However, if I am ever out in that area again, we can definitely do something more as far as teaching/learning.

I wouldn't mind going to a meet where we could discuss photography.

What type of lighting was this under? It looks like the lamps are off on the fixture.
Great Pictures BTW...

We actually just had 1 light on the whole time which was a BML light. Vu said that the zoas looked much better under blue and I can't say I disagree with him. The lighting made it so that hand held wasn't really an option, but I had my tripod with me.

He had a 6 bulb ATI I believe plus 2 BML's.

Very nice pics. Any links to tutorials you would recommend on macro photography?

I've tried taking pics with my canon 20d but have a hard time getting anything decent. Thought of upgrading to the 6d with a macro lens but that won't help much if I don't know how to use it properly. lol

True. I don't have any links but I suppose I can always do a demo on how to do it and upload it to youtube.

Conversely, if there is enough interest, we can always meet a members house that wouldn't mind opening their house/tank to us and having a live demo. It would be great to get a group together and showing them the ropes.

To add to that, in July I have been asked to go to NADA (North American Discus Association) in Chicago to give a presentation on just that, photographing discus. I am not sure if they will have someone recording the whole thing but in case they do, I will upload it here or in the photography section and some of the same techniques used to photograph discus can be applied for SW setups :)

you can probably make good money taking photos for everyone's reef! haha..

nothing more frustrating than having nice corals/anemone but only deep blue photos of them

Yeah, probably. I don't mean to sound cheesy but the satisfaction comes when people see their beautiful corals on my Flickr account. If I had my tank up and running, I wouldn't mind a frag of something, but I don't think I'd ever charge. It ****es my wife off to no end, believe me, but I enjoy the great conversations from fellow reefers.
