Walt's Official A. thiellei Page

I just wanted to broadcast post the following:
I posted this request for assistance in multiple threads on multiple forums and I wanted to make clear that I do very much appreciate the responses I got both on the threads and in PMs. I got a lot of different perspectives and had to pick a diagnosis and a treatment plan from among them. I tried to be objective in all my responses and hope that I was successful in doing so despite being quite frustrated at the moment. I made a judgement call based on what I've seen, what I've experienced in the past and the suggestions that were made. Whether or not I chose well will be determined in the next few days.
Either way, I appreciate every person who tried to be helpful. Thank you.

Raised the SG to 1.019 last night noticed an improvement this morning. I bumped up the SG to about 1.023 this morning and re-introduced copper because I saw some signs of amyloo returning.... probably as a result of the higher SG.

When my clowns have stopped eating from infection or other stress I have always had to try a wide variety of foods to get them eating again..

Live brine, Cyclopeeze, small mysis, anything that is small and I can get my hands on.. I always think smaller food works better when the fish isn't eating or hasn't eaten in a while.

He is not going to die from not eating in the next couple of weeks. Get some Nutrimar Ova in the meantime.

I'm gonna try the live brine. Cyclopeeze was of no interest.

Yeah, I've seen that at the LFS. I wish I had picked it up. Now they don't carry it anymore.

I went straight to the LFS yesterday to pick up some Maracyn Plus after work. On returning home I found that the swelling/mucous/whatever was back to the same condition that it was the morning prior. So, after a rather fruitless Google search on whether Coppersafe and Maracyn Plus could be used in conjunction, I sided with semi caution and dropped a carbon filter cartridge in the filter and dosed the Maracyn Plus. He was not interested in live brine last night or this morning.
He looked about the same this morning as yesterday morning. So, I just covered the tank again and didn't bother with a picture.
I'm not hopeless, but getting more concerned. He just swims in one spot against the current. Not much I can do with that but wait it out and hope the antibiotics do something miraculous.

Agree.

Prazi is also OK with Cupramine. Probably ok with Coppersafe (but never tried it.) Prazi, Cupramine and Maracyn II is also ok IME.

I found Maracyn II and coppersafe were fine but nothing on Maracyn Plus and Coppersafe. I "assumed" that it would be OK but threw in the filter to reduce the copper in case it wasn't to reduce any un-known resulting toxin.

Thanks!

I'm about ready to throw in the towel on this fish. He's losing weight and flees from live brine shrimp when they come near him. Even watching a small ocellaris eat changes nothing. I'm dosing prazi pro tonight. After that, I quit.

An anemone would require a healthy reef or at least a FOWLR system to survive. I do not possess either at this time as my focus has been on a sterile breeding system.
It would mean death of the anemone and a waste of the money it would cost to procure one.

Given what I've seen, I can rule out:
- Bacterial Infection (no streaks or redness)

I can't rule out:
- endoparacites

- fungal infection

- rectal prolapse (kinda leaning away from this now but can't rule it out.)

- amyloodinium (should have been killed off by the copper.)

- ick (should have been wiped out by the copper or the hypo.)

- Some combination thereof

Inability to accurately diagnose the problem is going to kill this fish because I can't stick with a treatment without knowing what I'm treating.

My last ditch effort will cover all treatable conditions that I cannot rule out. I figure it will either kill him, heal him or have no effect, in which case he will starve to death.

Treatment Plan:
- I dosed the second round of Maracyn Plus this AM.

- I will do a 100% water change tonight (to remove all remaining copper)followed by prazi pro.

- I will dose more copper tomorrow morning along with the last round of Maracyn Plus.

- If he's not dead on Sunday, I will drop another fresh carbon filter in and start adding Amquel.

The small ocellaris will remain with him through this process and I will continue to saturation feed with pellets in hopes that he will catch on. He did peck at one last night within five minutes of adding the ocellaris. This will also prevent water fouling.

Spectrum Thera +A is one of my staple foods. It's loaded with garlic. You can smell the garlic on your fingers after feeding it. So, no but yes.

He ate a couple cyclopeeze tonight.... Like three in five minutes, but ill take what I can get.
...and that thing is shrinking.
