Wanted: Healthy Tang

Sick and damn tired of sick blue tangs from just about every damn LFS in SoCal, not willing to try another baby, they are just too fragile.

If anyone has a powder blue, pacific blue, naso, clown, or any other healthy tang that is NOT a baby to get rid of, please let me know.

I need to view the fish in your tank to evaluate for ich, then get a bigger QT tank for treatment before I can pickup. Cash or Paypal.
 
I've got a couple I want to get rid of but I think unfortunatly they are too big for your 180. May be the sailfin MIGHT fit.

I'd definatly look for a bit bigger tang than a small baby. One thing I've noticed over the years and had confirmed this past weekend on a trip to UCSB and talking with the manager of the R.E.E.F. project there is that Ich is normally caused by stress on the fish. IF the fish is healty and happy in his enviroment, then he shouldn't get Ich. At least that's my and the managers theroy as he hasn't had any problems with the tanks at UCSB in the last 5 years as well.

With that said, in my 7+ year old 45G tank, I've only had one case of Ich and I don't QT. In my big 400G which I've only had about 7 months now, but was a established tank, I have yet to see Ich on any fish I've introduced, mostly from wholesalers but a few from friends and RC members.

I have a 5 - 6' blue tang that has been in my tank for over a year. Fat, healthy, and never been sick. Eat like a pig though. Let me know if you want it. Thanks.
 
I picked up a small blue Tang (about 2 inches long) from Coral Oasis about 2 months ago and it came down with a little bit of ich....MY cleaner shrimp stepped in and took care of it and now its super healthy....

I find if you have a bunch of active swimming fish tangs do a lot better
 
Ich is not caused by stress. Though they will get a black patch like when ther sleeping.Wouldnt all the tangs in small tanks have ich then?

Ich can be cause by high temperature in water,temperature swings, and high salinity. The parasite can live and thrive in SG of 1.025 and up, thats why when you set up a QT lower it to 1.010-9. In a few weeks(2-4) there will be no signs of the parasite as they will not be able to live in this SG.

When I set up my 60g I added a YT without QT and BOOM! 3 other of my fishes got ich. I bought myself a cleaner shrimp, and ran my UV for a couple days, water changes, and siphoned the bed because thats where the eggs land.And it was gone, I keep all mentioned above very stable.

My F1sh,
I had a nice discussion with a bio marine major at UCSB this weekend. he's the caretaker of their NSW system that is used for all of their research as well as their holding/research tanks. He has never, in the 5 years he's been there, had a ich outbreak. They don't treat any of their water, just pump it in, filter it, flow it into the tank, and pump it back out.

The discussion I had with him was about Ich. we both came to teh same conclusion that Ich is brought on by stress. I have never in the last 15 years ever QT'ed anything. Since I have gone from wet/drys to a more stable system, I have had only one case of ich in 7 years and that was on a stoer bought fish.

If you watch your anticipated purchase long enough, you will be able to determine if they are healty and stress free. As long as you provide the same enviroment for them, they should be fine.

BTW, my S.G. is 1.025, same as NSW since that's what I use from UCSB. ;)

I've seen Fattys Vlamingi, looked nice and healthy when I saw him. :D

Actually, I think thats a little too big for me to tell ya the truth. But thanks! Maybe I should just use that as an excuse to upgrade again? :D
 
I understand what your saying.

Im just saying that once in the home aquarium, thats the way they get it.

Well I guess we can conlude that SG swings,PH swings, temperature swings will cause stress to the fish and cause it to break ich?

Im a noobie still. But man enough to learn from something I misunderstood. Thanks.
