Check out the Avast reactors. I bought the MR5 18" and the quality is great and made in the US. Doesn't take much to tumble 500ml of ecobaks.

My MR1 did not come with a pump. What's up with that. I do agree though NextReef MR1 is the best reactor i've come across hands down. Superb quality.
 
+1 on the Avast. I have an early model it does fine with the pellets. I seemed that people were leaning toward an inverted dome at the bottom the KW300 was cheap way to get that.
 
When running these pellets do you have to direct the output of the reactor to the skimmer inlet? I just had a bad experience with another brand doing this. Completely knock down my foam head while I was offshore. My wife said the skimmer was like that for 4 days. I turned my reactor off and my skimmer picked up within five minutes.
 
I have my reactor return directed back to the skimmer intake. It doesn't seem to affect the foam head on my Octo SRO skimmer. You might give it some time to acclimate to the change. Warner Marine recommends you discharge next to the skimmer inlet.

Is the discharge changing the stability of the water level around the skimmer?
 
I was using a different brand and was wondering about the warner brand. Has anyone experience this with the Warner brand? When I took my pump apart the pinwheel was coated with a heavy slime, and I mean heavy. I can see why it stop producing. My tank clouded up (which I have heard happens to some and not to others) my leathers look like sh*t right now and my mushrooms are not in full bloom like normal. Fish are OK.

Sounds like you are getting the bacterial bloom that some experiance when using the pellets! That being said are you using the reccomended amount or More/Less? than they suggest to start with. Also the amount of flow may be too high or too low just no way of being 100% sure why you are having these issues. IME stick with it as it works very well for me and it's no effort at all on my part!

Hey guys, is there an optimal Alk range while using ecoBAK? I'm currently running 9.5 dkh and wondering if there might be any detrimental effects while running the bio pellets.
 
My flow was good when I left and then they clumped up while I was gone. I used a little less than the stated dosage. I also pre soaked the pellets for about 30hrs.
 
When new they do clumped up. All you need to do is shack them up or turn up the flow. As bacteria starts to eat the pellets you will get less of this. Do the pellets have room to move around in the reactor? I have seen some people with very little room to no room at all for movement and they will clumped up. If you use snow they also makes them clumped up. All I do is shack my reactor and I am good to go.

Not sure I should be included on that list :). I just repeated what I had read here there and other places. However, I can now say that Ihave been runnning them for a month. Still look like they did when new. About 300ml on a 75 wth a 40 gallon sump.
 
I've been running it for about a month now too,
I've noticed that the nusiance alge looks really brown and ugly,
and my skimmer is pulling some nasty stuff out now.
 
Seems the consenses is as close to NSW as possible (7.5-8.5) range is what i am hearing and reading on most all the boards and threads. That being said mine is doing great at around 8.0-8.5 on average.

I started my Ecobak journey last night. 1000 mL in a 180. I'm running them in a BRS dual reactor but I'm not able to get much tumbling. There's a little movement, mostly channeling, but definitely not tumbling. My tank is finally having good success so hopefully I won't have any problems from the pellets.

Took a few initial measurements before I started.
Alk - 8.79 (Hanna checker)
Phosphate - .043 ppm (14 ppb Hanna phosphorus checker converted to ppm)
Calcium - 460 (API)
Nitrate - 0 (API - not much low range on the API kit. 0 or 5 ppm are the first 2 choices)

I am also running a single BRS reactor of GFO. Hopefully down the road, I will be able to phase this out.

Hey Josh, After I think 8-9 months of using EB without any GFO my Phosphate averages around 0.36PPM or 12PPB Hanna Checker. It will get lower on occasion and sometimes higher but IME this is about what you will see in the long term using EB When it Matures Bacterial wise and becomes effective. It took 4-5 months before i actually pulled the GFO and then the EB took over as i have around 25 fish in my little 105 gal and feed Anthias 4-5 times a day without any ill effects. Good luck and just be patience.
