Warner Marine Now Has A Pellet Product

Seems the consenses is as close to NSW as possible (7.5-8.5) range is what i am hearing and reading on most all the boards and threads. That being said mine is doing great at around 8.0-8.5 on average.

Thanks Bill. Is there any science or reason behind keeping the alk at these levels? Is it just because the corals become more sensitive to higher alk in a ULNS environment?

I'm not sure if it matters or not all i know is if it ain't broke don't fix it.

+1 on the Avast. I have an early model it does fine with the pellets. I seemed that people were leaning toward an inverted dome at the bottom the KW300 was cheap way to get that.

Check out the Avast reactors. I bought the MR5 18" and the quality is great and made in the US. Doesn't take much to tumble 500ml of ecobaks.

I initially was using an Avast reactor but found out that the holes in the plate are a little small and get clogged easily and kills the flow through the reactor.

I bought the avast about 6 months ago (kit form) and it came with the circular mesh everyone is getting at Hobby Lobby, Michaels, etc. Maybe it is a change, how old is yours?

can someone with 'excellent' results (nutrient wise) post a video of their flow?

all teh pellets moving or some of the pellets or none of the pellets?

What experiences have you guys has with Ricordea Florida and Caribbean Gorgonians when using Warner's pellets? I know R. Florida prefers a bit "dirtier" water than SPS, but does bacterial film released from the reactor feed the Rics?

For me Ricordea Florida and my gorgonians do fine with very low nutrients.
( NO3 <0.1ppm and PO4 ,.03ppm)
I use vodka and vinegar though and they may get some bacteria . Can't say whether they are consuming bacteria though or whether pellets would produce any beneficial bacteria for them.

Thanks Tom. Guess my biggest concern is that since they typically like dirtier water than Acros, they might suffer under an ULNS. I really want to try the pellets to help with algae issues, but don't want to do so at the expense of my R. Florida.

My Ric floridas, and some zoas are getting pretty upset. It has been about 8 months on the pellets, and I need to make some changes. It took a long time for the pellets to kick in, but now that they have, the rics are slowly shrinking and receding. Any good supplement recommendations? Sorry, I don't want to have to sort through 50 pages.

I am happy with the results of the pellets, as I think I can address the ULNS. I just want to know if anyone has had any luck with anything specific to counter. I may try upping the feeding a bit.

I think feeding is widely misunderstood when using the pellets imo. For some reason marketing has lead us to believe it's a 'set it and forget it' method. In some regards yes, as far as nutrient reduction is concerned but feeding is the silent factor here. I've been running ecoBAK for months now with great nutrient reduction results. I'm going to start experimenting as if it was a Zeo system but instead of Zeolites I'm using pellets obviously. My feeding/dosing schedule will be relatively the same as a Zeo system to give the corals what they need but keep the nutrients within the parameters of a ULNS.

Look into Zeo's Amino Acid LPS and even AAHC as they are been noted to benefit most corals, including ricordea. Zeofood 7 is cheaper and may be just as effective. Roti-feast and Oyster-Feast might also be effective but I don't know the micron size of those food and/or if the ricordea would respond to them. Just some thoughts...

After about a month of running the pellets Cyano looks like it is finally going. I didn't change anything and just let it do its thing. The tank is new so wasnt too worried. Water is crystal clear and things look pretty good
