ok I'm going to try your way and see if I see a difference in corals. I tamed it down on% because I also have 4 t5 that kick on from 12 to 4. See what happens. Your tank is amazing.

Thanks for sharing your setting Wazzel. They look very nice. Wondering if they would boost my growthand keep some of my color. Just scared of them since uv is super high. I run mine currently at 20, and whites peak at 35. Blues at 65. What percentage would you recommend acclimation?. Also did your tort get its color back??. I moved mine to thd top and washed it..
Is have not moved it so it is still a little washed out. It grows really well even though it is pale. I plan on moving it lower with the upgrade. For the acclimation I would set it so it is approximately equal to what you have now.

Did you ever have sps growing away from the light like their getting too much maybe certain sps?

I have an m cap that has grown down, but it also has grown up so I think it might be due to reflected light from the bottom glass.

I'm in the midst of setting up a cube now, just doing plumbing and it's ready so I'm curious about the bare bottom over sand. Youve had both on this tank right? Which is better do you feel and why? Is your lower pane covered in coralline? It looks like you have some coral encrusting the bottom? Do you have any other regrets or suggestions about the 60g cube? My rock in more a slanted horseshoe and for piwerheads I have two rw-4s that I will place on the back lane blasting through the rock. My return will feed back out of my seaswirl. I'm really just looking for anything that can help me start of successfully
Cheers and thanks

I have not had sand in this tank. There is a little coralline on the bottom. On the bottom I do have some non-encrusting LPS. The only encrusting coral on the bottom is an M Cap that grew down. The ony things I would have done different looking back would be to not stack the rocks so high, put in fewer corals and set up the drain as a Herbie instead of a

As far as sand, I prefer bare bottom. Mostly that come from the last time I had a tank with sand. It had been up a few years and I had to take it down for a move. The sand was full of gunk from accumulating over the years. Decided I never wanted that in my tank ever again. I also discovered bare bottom lends itself better to my style of reef keeping. It really is just a preference.

More rehoming today. My blood red millie and BC Pineapple tree have been move to the frag tank for safe keeping. The mille was so shaded it is pink and the pineapple tree was so hidden I forgot it was in the tank. I caught a reflection of it in the back glass while doing my water change today.

The more I look at my collection the less I want to cull anything. Sigh

Oh what about your wave makers and flow in display??

Right now I have 2 ETM, MP10's. If I was keeping the tank I would need more flow. All the growth has created dead spots. In the new tank I am planning to use Gyres. Going to go with 2 of the smaller on the back and 2 of the larger on the sides. Initially it will be just the two on the back. The larger two will be added as funds become available.

The bauerbanki now lives in the frag tank. It all of a sudden started to look bad. When I looked down on the tank it was completely shaded by the orange cap. I hope I caught it in time and I do not loose it. Going to move the favia, it is almost completely shaded by the orange cap also.

Stupid File fish. I hade to trap it. Was nipping at my LPS quite aggressively. It is now in fishy solitary until I can rehome it. Hope I can find it a home.

My wrasse jumped last night. I do not have a screen so I know mostly my fault. What I want to know is how can a fish that was "limping" along the tank bottom and not eating for several days all of a sudden get the strength to jump? Not sure what it got, but it was looking really bad for over a week. No outward signs of anything.

Sorry about the fish.

Someone recommended a filefish to help solve my out of control pally problems, but apparently they can't be trusted to eat what you want them to eat (as always the case with biological controls).

It was a goner anyway. Was looking real bad.

Biologicals are hit or miss. Have one little patch of aiptasia I can not eradicate. Tried peppermint shrimp, nudies and now the filefish. They are on my clam so I can not nuke them with a chemical solution. I will deal with them during the swap.

My filefish has taken out all the aiptasi in my tank. However he is somewhat of an sps nipper. But the problem is as soon as i take him out they come back with a vengeance. But because of him my p.e is almost non existing during the day. He however has never nipped any zoa or lps. Have you tried a lazer?? I was thinking of buying one.

Sorry to hear about the wrasse.. Must have been a death spasm..
I had to remove my file fish as well. He was eating all or my lps and even certain sps coral polyps..
I did a real victory dance when I got him out..
By the way... I noticed that there are precious few pics on this page...
Just saying.. :)

Well I am a very busy person so not much time to take pics. End of HS football season, and the holiday time is very busy for me. All three of my kids are in band, plus I play with two groups. On top of that I got a job and other crap to do.

Oh, and I suck as a fish tank photographer. I am never happy with how they turn out.
