Wazzel's mostly SPS 60 Cube

My tank is bright in appearance. I get between 200 and 300 par on the bottom and around 1000 near the top center. I am actually working the white channel down to see if I can bring back some color to a few pieces that look washed out. I am at 65% on the white for the 4 hours I run at full power.

Mercy! :D I've been running a fixed ramp up, hold full for 6 hours, and ramp down. Maybe I'll try a smoother ramp up and down to see what happens.

You think your bass speaker (woofer?) might have some dry rot? I have some old Boston Acoustic A100s (bought in the late 80's), such a nice speaker, don't make em like the used to, etc .... anyway I just purchased my 3rd set of woofers on Ebay, this time ones that were re-coned recently since BA doesn't make them anymore. Generally they will sound just fine until the moment the tear happens, and then the cone disintegration is pretty rapid. I would imagine something carried around a lot to different venues might not last as long.

I run 14 hours with 5 hour ramps (2.5 hours from 0-80%, 2.5 hours from 80-100%, reversed on the sunset side) and a 4 hour 100% hold in the middle.

I do not think dry rot. It was all of a sudden, but only on lower register stuff. It is a nasty rattle. I want to get a factory speaker since the enclosure and speaker were designed to work together. It is one of those light weight powerful bass amps that started to come out a few years ago. The amp is a Genz-Benz shuttle 6.0-12T combo. Much easier to lug around and on the back than the Fender BXR300C I was using before.

thanks for picking at me to take pictures. I gave the tank a once over while taking the top downs. I need more flow. All the growth has really blocked some of the flow. I think I am going to pick up a smaller gyre and add it in. It is something I was planning on getting for the 120 anyway.

Anyone know of sales this weekend?

I'm glad it served more than one purpose to get you to take some pictures:)

A lot of the sites are having sales where you take a flat percentage off. Salty supply has both Gyres on markdown.

I usually order from premium aquatics. The gyres are on sale today with free shipping. They are also going to be 10% off come Friday.

Its a good time to buy equipment! That price is the same one that Salty has. Stupid MAP pricing, even the sale prices are regulated.

+1 to that comment! !!

Nice tank and colors !!

Why Gyres ? I have read around they have many issues .

Cheers
Daniel

Don't believe the handful of folks who complain about the gyres like they are all falling apart. The majority of customers don't have that experience. I have 3 and have had no issues - I've even gotten Strombus snails inside without anything breaking.

OK....good to know.

I had in mind reading here and there about issues like the one Matt (Canada) had (or similar issues). That's why I posted the question.

Thanks
Daniel

My faulty wiring issues were in first gen. pumps. I think that's been fixed and from what I understand, I will get replacement motor blocks.
I'm very happy with mine..

That's what I understand as well, keep in mind the wires entering the motor block are carrying Low voltage DC power, and are not a safety hazard like a 115V AC pump wire would be.

:)
That's why I'm still using them and, so far, not in a hurry to change them out.
It requires a small trip to go pick up the new motor blocks and I just haven't done it yet..

I know I can't wait forever.. I don't want corrosion getting in the tank..

Sometimes it pays to procrastinate. The gyre 130's were on sale-sale today. They were $189 +free shipping instead of $219 yesterday. I got 2 since I will need both of them for the 120. The price is at all the stores so I got them from BRS something was up at premium aquatics web site.

I saw that deal and I'm stoked you got it!
