Wazzel's mostly SPS 60 Cube

Mark, do you use the AI Director? I have the controller and I'm not sure I can control the inflection points, then again I just use the easy timer settings.

You've probably already answered in the pages prior, assuming you're using Director?

Thanks,

Yes I use a director. My understanding is the web interface is the same for the director and the non-director units. I have never messed with the controller.

Tinkering with the lights a little. Dropped everything 5%, colors at 95% and white at 45% going to give it a few weeks to see what happens. My two purple corals look like they want to turn, but still might be getting just a bit to much light.

Things appear to be darker/ less washed out, especially the LPS.
Out of curiosity, if you turn the whites back up, do the corals keep their colour or do that immediately start to look more washed out?

I've always wondered if the colours we see are as much affected by what additional light is there (in the green/yellow spectrum where our eyes are most sensitive) as by what light isn't.

Not sure how to answer that. I had nice colors before I added the second unit. During the ramp up,phase things got wased out. I wanted to give the corals time to see if they would come around, but they did not. Not real interested in trying to bring the whites back up to see what happens. I am working a plan and want to stick with it.

Remember I have 6 hydra 52 over a 5' tank and I finally have seen better colors at less than 50% which is prolly around 40% or less. The more hydra you add the less your corals can take and it's taken a year to gradually find that spot lol. Too much light!

What par did you have before and did you match it with the addition of the second light? You should have started at 50% and went from there.

Do not know. But I should have just set the two lights to half what I had on one and not pushed it.

Great info. I am going to go with the 4 hydra 26 hd on my 150 cube. Gonna try and steal/replicate your success. Fingers crossed. Just have to figure out all the ramp, intensity and acclimation

Yea it's been kicking my butt and I added 4-t5 to the mix so it's a lot of light! I think I still need to drop it even thou I have 230 to 250 par at the top sps. I do have some brown corals but trying to figure out if it's lighting or low nutrient from bio pellets. Stuff is still growing even brown.

Mine grow like weeds so they are healthy, just not colorful. They will come around in time.

I guess I did not explain myself very well. I was not suggesting you change your lighting regime. What I meant was, if you turn the white up temporarily for, say 10 minutes, do the corals instantly look washed out. I've always wondered to what extend Green/Yellow masks the colours present in the coral.

Here is my schedule is text form. Let me know is you need further explanation.

DB is my moon light. It runs 2% from 9pm to 8am

For normal day time operations the lights start ramping up at 8 am starting with DB and adding a color every 5 minutes in the following order DB, RB, V, UV, G, R, W. The ramp off starts to end at 9pm with W going off first and the rest following every 5 minutes in the following order W, R, G, UV, V, RB, DB.

At 10AM and 8pm the channels have the following settings
DB - 80
RB - 75
V - 70
UV - 65
G - 60
R - 55
W - 35

From 1pm to 5pm all channels at 100 except white which is at 55

That should cover the inflection points. I ramp between them.

Thank you for posting this.

Your tank looks great, and as a fellow LED light owner, (Radions), I enjoy looking at tanks with great looking corals that run LED's.

Hopefully, I'll be able to replicate your success to some degree.

Mark your last few photos look great, your tank is really looking beautiful. Are you still working on the tank upgrade? I really love the 1 year growth comparison, well done!

Sure no problem. The whole point of these boards is to share information. I am working on some light adjustments now. I dropped the max of all channels to 95% and the white to 45%. Plan to keep posted as things progress.

Thanks. Yes I am. You are not holding you breath are you? I may get to poly the stand this weekend. Having three teen aged kids in band really cuts into the free time.

Last night I made a 40 min each way trip to listen to a 15 min performance by the two oldest ones. It was well worth the 80 minutes of driving.
